Instructor, IT Networking (Part-time)

Under the supervision of the Dean of STEM or designee, to teach introductory and intermediate classes in Information Technology Networking including the setup of information technology networks and emerging technologies. Responsible for preparing, conducting, and evaluating technical training programs for IT Networking. Writes literature and materials to be used in programs and hands on designs exercises to enhance lectures. This position may instruct courses at multiple MATC campuses in either day and/or evening programs. Related duties include curriculum development, participation in departmental and campus activities, and other duties as assigned.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
• Manage the classroom/laboratory.
• Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
• Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
• Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
• Collaborate with advisory committee in program area.
• Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
• Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.
• Support student organizations and activities.
• Develop relationships with business and industry.
• Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
• Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in field.

Interview: As part of the interview process, selected candidates are required to prepare and present an interactive theory lesson and simulated teaching demonstration lasting 10 minutes of the overall interview time, which may be conducted in-person or virtually.

1. Must have a Master’s Degree in one of the following: a. Computer Science,

b. Computer Science Education,

c. Electrical Engineering,

d. Computer Engineering,

e. Management Information Systems,

f. IT Networking,

g. Information Security;

1. Any Master’s degree with 18 graduate credits in IT or closely related area such as: Computer Science, Computer Science Education, Information Science & Technology, Web Development, Engineering, Information Assurance, Business Administration, Computer Forensics or Cybersecurity.

2. Any Bachelor’s Degree with seven (7) years (14,000 hours) of IT work and/or seven (7) of IT instructional experience.

Occupational Experience: Must have a minimum of 2 years (4,000 hours) of work experience in the field of Information Technology. In addition, one of the following must be met:

• At least one year of work experience must have occurred within the last five (5) years, OR
• Two years of teaching Information Technology course work at the post-secondary level within the last five years., + Knowledge or experience with engaged and service learning strongly preferred.
• Must be able to communicate effectively through both oral and written means.
• Must have knowledge of assessment of student academic achievement techniques.
• Must meet Higher Learning Commission (HLC) standards (if applicable).
• Must be able to relate successfully with students and staff of diverse cultural, social and educational backgrounds.

Essential Supportive Technology:

Experience with or willingness to learn the following supportive technologies:

• Online Information Management Systems - Experience with Self-Service or other online information management systems used for student advising, student programs, grading, class schedules and rosters.
• Blackboard Ultra - Experience with Blackboard or other web-based course - management systems.
• Technology-based Instruction - Experience with technology-based instructional delivery systems including SMART symposium, interactive touch screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players and/or other classroom technology.
• Emerging Technologies - Experience with emerging technologies (e.g. social networking applications)., If you are using degrees, courses, or credits from an institution outside the United States, they must be from an institution considered equivalent to a regionally accredited post-secondary institution in the United States.

Hours: This is a part-time faculty pool position. This is an “applicant pool” posting. Assignments are temporary, not guaranteed, can vary in hours/days, and will depend entirely on course availability and department needs each semester. All work must be performed in the state of Wisconsin. We are seeking candidates with flexibility to teach assignments to include any combination of the following:

• Instructional Modality: In-person
• Teaching Times: Daytime, evening, and/or weekend classes

Salary: The starting hourly wage for all part-time faculty is $40 per course hour of teaching. Part-time faculty are also compensated for an additional 45 minutes of time for each hour of instruction to cover office hours and prep time which is equivalent to $70 per hour. This starting hourly wage of $40 an hour is non-negotiable.
