Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY: The position of Network Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, monitoring, trouble-shooting, support and maintenance of the University’s network equipment, server-based systems, and workstations., * Install, configure, manage, monitor, and maintain network infrastructure, including switches, wireless access points, routers, and related systems;

  • Install, configure, manage, and support server and workstation systems, including operating systems, hardware, and endpoint configurations;
  • Monitor network and system performance, including traffic, bandwidth utilization, and resource usage, to ensure security, reliability, and availability;
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network, server, and workstation issues, performing analysis and tuning to maintain optimal performance;
  • Maintain security by monitoring logs, identifying unauthorized activity, and ensuring timely application of firmware updates, patches, and endpoint protections;
  • Ensure network, server, and workstation environments meet established uptime and performance standards;
  • Recommend, coordinate, and support installation of network drops and endpoint connectivity as needed;
  • Provide and maintain configuration standards and documentation for network devices, servers, and workstation systems in accordance with departmental guidelines;
  • Assist with evaluation, procurement, and lifecycle management of university technology equipment, including networking, server, and workstation assets;
  • Provide technical support and guidance to faculty, staff, and students, ensuring effective communication and service delivery;
  • Participate in on-call support rotation as required;
  • Assist with departmental operations, including coordination of technical staff where applicable;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist with employee supervision and assignment of work order priorities., * Occasional weekend or after-hours work required

Requirements

  • Associate Degree.
  • Three years of experience in comparable role.
  • Basic knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills as well as technical skills to present and exchange technical information.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines.
  • Basic evidence of successful experience with network design and working with enterprise-class LAN’s.
  • Demonstrated evidence in performing duties and responsibilities with minimal supervision while also being able to work collaboratively with diverse groups.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Experience with HP/Aruba network devices.
  • Experience with VMware.
  • Experience working in an end-user support role.
  • Basic knowledge of Unix/Linux.
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques used in administering complex networks.
  • 3 years of experience in a higher education or related setting.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: With or without reasonable accommodation, the employee must be able to walk forward, backward, and laterally; sit, stand, kneel, crouch, crawl; climb and descend stairs and ladders; open and close doors; and use both arms and hands with fine motor control to handle tools and materials. The role requires regularly lifting/moving up to 10 pounds, frequently up to 25 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements-close, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus-must be job-related and consistent with business necessity.
