Job description

  • Execute Windows 11 upgrades for laboratory workstations and instrument-connected systems.
  • Coordinate upgrade activities with instrument vendors, scientists, and laboratory stakeholders.
  • Work alongside vendors during onsite or remote upgrade activities.
  • Follow vendor-provided installation and configuration procedures for scientific software and instrument systems.
  • Assist with troubleshooting software, operating system, and connectivity issues that arise during upgrades.
  • Support post-upgrade verification activities and remain engaged to resolve technical issues identified during testing.
  • Document upgrade activities, issues, resolutions, and system configurations.

Laboratory IT Support

  • Provide technical support for scientific instruments and associated computer systems.
  • Support both standalone and client/server laboratory instrument environments.
  • Troubleshoot instrument-to-PC connectivity issues, including network, communication, and hardware-related problems.
  • Collaborate with scientists, laboratory staff, vendors, and IT teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Assist with software installation, configuration, maintenance, and upgrades for laboratory applications.
  • Maintain system availability and ensure laboratory users receive timely support.

Infrastructure & Systems Support

  • Support Windows-based laboratory computing environments.
  • Assist with Windows Server administration and maintenance activities.
  • Support Active Directory integration and user access management.
  • Troubleshoot networking issues including DNS, ports, firewalls, and connectivity problems.
  • Assist with backup and recovery activities as required.
  • Work with enterprise IT teams to ensure laboratory systems remain compliant with organizational standards.

Vendor & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Serve as a liaison between laboratory personnel, instrument vendors, and IT teams.
  • Coordinate vendor support activities and technical troubleshooting sessions.
  • Ensure laboratory systems remain operational throughout upgrade and support activities.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and issues to stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of IT support experience in laboratory, scientific, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, or research environments.
  • Experience supporting Windows desktop operating systems and workstation deployments.
  • Experience performing Windows 10 to Windows 11 upgrades and migrations.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server administration.
  • Experience with Active Directory environments.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals including DNS, ports, firewalls, and connectivity troubleshooting.
  • Experience supporting instrument-connected computers and scientific laboratory equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills., * Experience supporting laboratory instruments in biotech, pharmaceutical, or research environments.
  • Familiarity with client/server scientific applications and laboratory systems.
  • Experience working directly with instrument vendors and software providers.
  • Familiarity with scientific applications such as:
  • Unicorn
  • ChemDraw / ChemOffice
  • Similar laboratory and scientific software platforms
  • Experience supporting regulated laboratory environments.
  • Understanding of backup, recovery, and system lifecycle management practices.
