Job description

As a Senior Software Developer in our core delivery team, you'll help craft interesting, challenging systems that are beyond routine feature work, alongside a team of highly skilled peers who value software craftsmanship and autonomy.

You'll work in an environment that prioritises technical excellence, curiosity, and forward-thinking design. We are looking for someone who is excited by emerging technologies and wants to make a tangible difference in the way people interact with digital systems. We offer a culture built on trust, continuous learning, and meaningful impact. You'll join a team that values integrity over ego, and clarity over complexity.

Propellerhead operates a hybrid working model (work from our office and from your own home). While we prefer our NZ-based team to be located in Auckland, we are also welcoming applications from international developers who would like to work remotely or relocate to Auckland (please specify your plans in your application).

If you are ready to work on real problems with real impact, and help lay the groundwork for what comes next - we would like to hear from you.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Active participation in all aspects of software solution design, including code structure, deployment architecture, DevOps, automated testing and integration of third party systems in line with our technical strategies.
  • Collaborating with client stakeholders and with fellow Propellerhead Developers, Analysts, and Solution Architects, to create a shared understanding of the solution design and roadmap delivery in line with agreed budgets.
  • Constructing software at every layer of the stack, from user interfaces, back end services, data repositories, interoperability, infrastructure-as-code, deployment pipelines, automated testing and system monitoring.
  • Providing second-line support of the systems you build and actively seeking ways to keep your software secure, performant and reliable.
  • Passing on your learning of new technologies or techniques to the broader organisation as part of our knowledge sharing programme.
  • As a core team member you will be responsible for directing the development approach and reviewing components delivered by implementation partners to ensure quality measures such as security, reliability, maintainability, performance and functional fit for purpose.
  • Actively moving forward the evolution of our code base from C# to Rust., * Mandatory - Please tell us more about yourself: (Tell us more about who you are and what you value - this is where you can write your cover letter, please note - only applications with a cover letter will be reviewed.):
  • Can you share an example of a project you've enjoyed working on? Please include any relevant links (if possible):
  • While we love AI and all the benefits it brings, we kindly ask that you refrain from using it anywhere within your application. We don't use AI or automation to screen applications (a real person is reviewing your CV!), so please apply as your authentic self. This helps us get to know your unique experiences, perspectives, and ideas - this is very important to us. We're interested to hear your thoughts on AI in the context of applying for this role. Please share your perspective on our request not to use AI throughout our recruitment process:
  • What country are you currently based in?
  • Part of our recruitment process is interviewing in-person. Our team will be in Europe (Paris or London) to interview candidates, early next year, likely in March 2026. Would this in-person meeting be viable for you ? (we'll need you to look after the cost and organisation of attending this interview yourself, but we'll try and be as flexible as we can to suit your arrangements.)
  • Are you interested in moving to New Zealand? Or working remotely? (Please note that although Propellerhead doesn't offer financial assistance for relocation, we work with those looking to relocate to make the process as easy and flexible as possible - additionally, we are committed to paying competitive salaries, having beautifully set up offices and offering a rich and supportive environment for learning and growth.)

Requirements

  • 7+ years experience as a Software Developer, including experience working with enterprise-level complexity.
  • Proficiency in TypeScript and at least one modern web application framework, preferably React.
  • Experience in C# and up-to-date .NET frameworks to the extent you can maintain some existing code.
  • Hands-on experience deploying to Azure and/or AWS, including participation in building CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code using tools such as Terraform.
  • Experience with asynchronous services and/or stream processing.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and container-based deployments.
  • Some experience with Rust is desirable. You will be moving heavily towards this programming language with us.
  • We are particularly looking for developers with experience or demonstrable interest in any of the following: digital identity, verifiable credentials, open banking, AI agent authorization, edge or device-based software deployment.
  • Experience using techniques such as user stories to express the work to be done as business outcomes.
  • You can produce clear and concise design documents.
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills to translate between requirements and technical tasks.
  • Remote candidates: Able to demonstrate a reliable work setup, including a high-quality camera, and stable high-speed internet connection, to ensure consistent and quality involvement in virtual meetings.
