Job description
As Software Engineer you will be participating in various research projects, exploring the state-of-the-art and contributing to demonstrators and proof-of-concepts. Together with a team consisting of researchers, developers, product managers, and clinical experts, you will be able to contribute to the future of healthcare.
As a Software Engineer, you
- Are an outcome-oriented expert, you seek to in-depth understand end-user, partner, and patient problems and think of innovative solutions.
- Implement iteratively and in close collaboration with internal and external (clinical) partners, first-of-a-kind prototypes, and proof of concepts.
- You enjoy working with and exploring new technologies.
- Stay up to date with the new academic, international standardization, regulatory and commercial developments and trends in computer science, healthcare imaging, and visualization applications.
- You share and interact around these insights with your peers, both internally and externally (conferences)
- Are a team player, you collaborate with your peers, internal stakeholders and external partners to develop and demonstrate innovative solutions to challenging problems.
Requirements

Has a master's degree in computer science or a closely related field or equivalent through experience.

The context of the job will depend on project to project, so while it is interesting to tick a couple of boxes below, a deep-dive attitude is the strict necessity:

Strong background in software engineering in modern languages like Python, C/C++, TypeScript, ... and the matching language ecosystems

Basic experience with cloud platforms like AWS

Hands-on experience with Linux platforms, Docker, embedded systems, ...
-
Basic software engineering tooling and best practices, like git, Github, CI/CD, Atlassian stack
-
Background/interest in AI and machine learning and all necessary practices around it (data collection, data exploration, cleaning, training, MLops, ...)
-
Experience with image processing but also with hardware acceleration like GPUs (CUDA, Vulkan, OpenGL, shaders, ...)
-
Following the current technology hypes like LLMs, Generative AI and Agent AI, and being able to identify value from buzzwords.

A creative/maker/tinkering mindset to build test setups/PoC with the equipment material at hand and to select the-right-tool-for-the-job whether it is a Raspberry pi, some Arduino's, Unreal Engine or Ollama.

As we are contributing to the healthcare field, the following can be a plus:

Prior knowledge of medical imaging, e.g. processing of medical imaging, DICOM file format, ...

Experience with working in a medical device development context (MDD/MDR, regulatory pathways, Software as a Medical Device, EU AI Act)

Experience with interaction with healthcare organizations (data collection protocols, clinical studies, ...)

Interest in collaborating in a broader eco-system, contributing to funded research.

Works thoroughly, both independently and in a team, with great perseverance towards a result that meets the requirements and constraints, that is evaluated and documented and meets the quality level expected in a healthcare context.

Is pro-active, takes initiative, and shows end-to-end problem ownership.

Is a loyal team player with good (English) communication skills, Dutch is a plus.
