Job description
As the System Controls & Calibration Manager, you will lead the development and optimisation of hydrogen and dual fuel engine control strategies. This role combines technical calibration expertise with team leadership, overseeing both engine calibration (for optimal CO2-reduction) and the creation and validation of software requirements for embedded control systems. You'll guide a multidisciplinary team to deliver robust, compliant, and high-performing powertrain solutions for vessels, vehicles, and industrial platforms., * Team leadership: Manage and mentor a team of controls and calibration engineers responsible for software requirements, implementation, and validation.
- Calibration development: Create and refine engine calibration maps for fuel injection, ignition timing, air/fuel ratio, torque control, and emissions strategies.
- Controls strategy development: Oversee the definition and refinement of control algorithms for the hydrogen/diesel duel fuel system.
- Cold start & transient tuning: Optimise engine behaviour under varying environmental and load conditions.
- Software requirements management: Ensure clear, testable software requirements are written and validated in alignment with system-level goals.
- Testing & validation: Conduct and supervise engine and vehicle testing on dynos, benches, and in-field environments to validate both calibration and control strategies.
- Data analysis: Analyse performance, emissions, and diagnostic data to identify optimisation opportunities.
- ECU integration: Coordinate with software developers and hardware engineers to implement and test control logic.
- Compliance & standards: Ensure all control and calibration work meets regulatory standards for emissions, safety, and performance.
- Documentation & reporting: Maintain comprehensive records of calibration maps, software requirements, test results, and version control.
- Collaboration: Work closely with controls engineers, mechanical designers, and external partners to integrate calibration into complete powertrain systems.
