Job description

About DataScouts

DataScouts is a Belgian scale-up specialising in AI-enabled Market & Ecosystem Intelligence. With our digital platforms, we help companies, clusters and development organisations to map complex ecosystems, monitor market trends and make strategic decisions.

Our solutions combine internal and external data with AI and use smart workflows for market exploration, scenario analysis, innovation scouting and ecosystem development. To further strengthen our data quality and AI capabilities, we are looking for a Data & AI Engineer to help shape agentic models, data augmentation and sector-specific AI.

Your tasks

About the position

As a Data & AI Engineer, you will be responsible for the quality, interoperability and usability of our data. You will work with complex data structures, build integrations with external data sources and vendors, and develop new ways to enrich data.

You will combine hands-on technical skills with the ability to talk to data suppliers about APIs, data schemes, licensing models and interoperability. You will thus lay the foundation for sector-specific AI models that allow customers to ask complex questions and get reliable answers - via queries as well as conversational AI.

Your responsibilities

  1. Data Quality & Structure
  • Designing, maintaining and optimising relational, graph and vector databases.
  • Ensuring consistent data modelling, data quality and interoperability.
  1. Data Vendors & Integration
  • Selecting, integrating and managing external data sources and suppliers.
  • Negotiating and aligning around API integrations, data schemes and licensing models.
  • Monitoring that data matches our internal data standards and use cases.
  1. Data Modeling & Augmentation
  • Developing smart data structures suitable for sector-specific applications.
  • Applying data augmentation to enrich datasets and improve representation.
  1. AI & Sector-specific Models
  • Developing and fine-tuning of sector-specific AI models.
  • Experimenting with agentic AI and conversational pipelines.
  1. Complex Questions & Conversational Search
  • Building solutions that allow customers to ask complex questions and get answers.
  • Developing the query and conversational AI infrastructure that makes this possible.

Your profile

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, AI or equivalent experience.
  • 4-8 years' experience in data engineering, AI or machine learning.
  • Broad knowledge of relational, graph and vector databases.
  • Experience with data modelling, data augmentation and API integrations.
  • Awareness of data interoperability standards and experience with data vendor licensing models.
  • Practical experience with LLMs, RAG, conversational AI and query-driven data retrieval.
  • Analytically strong, communication skills towards both developers and external data partners.
