Job description
Systems Engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. All activities that consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the user's needs by balancing both customer requirements and technical feasibility.
The discipline that executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed. Process that proceeds from concept to production to operation.
As part of the role, the candidate will be required to represent GE in front of external stakeholders such as clients, third party suppliers, professional bodies (IEC, Cigré, etc). You will also interact with GE stakeholders within the HVDC business and the wider GE renewables organisation. The candidate will also have the opportunity to develop innovative ideas and publish their work internationally in scientific papers and patents., The successful candidate may be involved in any of the following areas and is expected to have experience in a number of these areas:
-
Radio Frequency Interference studies and Electromagnetic Compatibility studies.
-
Power Line Carrier Interference studies and filters.
-
Design of AC, DC, and High Frequency harmonic filters and screening. Calculations of filter performance and rating. Creation of project-specific equipment specifications for filter reactors/capacitors/resistors.
-
AC and DC harmonic performance and harmonic stability studies for HVDC converter stations for VSC and LCC HVDC schemes.
-
Providing subject matter expert input to design reviews and verifying project proposals.
-
Work with other engineers, suppliers, and clients to ensure successful project outcomes.
-
Mentoring and developing a team of engineers to build HVDC expertise.
-
Collaborating with global engineering teams to contribute to product development and emerging technologies.
-
Developing and maintaining technical specifications, guidance notes, and standards for HVDC systems.
-
Develop an integrated scheme design that meets the Customer's needs, by developing requirements on the ratings and functionalities of the different HVDC system's subsystems, in an optimised and cost-effective manner.
-
Report or resolve any non-conformances in a timely manner.
-
Identify and evaluate EHS risks in own area and implement practical measures.
-
Set the example by demonstrating the proper acts and actively observe work conditions and behaviours, giving constructive feedback and celebrating EHS effective prevention.
-
Actively participate in defining corrective actions when work is unsafe or when an uncontrolled risk is observed.
-
Actively and routinely promote the identification of hazards and near misses to their team/s.
