Job description

As an IT System Engineer, you'll play a central role in the development and maintenance of both our cloud and on-premise infrastructure. Your work will span across core areas such as container orchestration (Kubernetes), CI/CD automation, backup and recovery, infrastructure-as-code, and system security. In addition to optimizing performance and availability, you'll manage virtualization platforms, secure network connectivity between hybrid environments, and act as a point of escalation during incidents. You'll help ensure everything runs reliably, securely, and efficiently - from backups and deployments to network routing and access control., You'll work closely with other engineers to ensure our infrastructure is scalable, secure and observable across environments:

  • Design and automate backup and recovery processes, including regular test restores and disaster recovery planning.
  • Monitor and optimize cloud infrastructure (CPU, memory, storage, network), while managing updates, patching, and health checks.
  • Maintain and scale Kubernetes clusters, and integrate infrastructure provisioning into CI/CD pipelines using IaC tools like Terraform.
  • Manage on-premise virtualization platforms (e.g. Proxmox VE, VMware) and ensure connectivity between cloud and on-prem environments.
  • Implement security best practices across IAM, network access, secrets management, and vulnerability scanning.
  • Support deployment workflows, environment configuration, and rollback procedures through CI/CD pipelines.

Requirements

Do you have experience in vSphere?, You have hands-on experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including core services like compute, storage, networking, and IAM. You're comfortable working with container technologies like Docker and Kubernetes and can troubleshoot, scale, and secure those environments confidently.

You have a solid grasp of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred), are proficient in scripting (Python, Bash, or Go), and are experienced with both Linux and Windows system administration. Your networking fundamentals are strong (DNS, HTTP/S, TCP/IP, load balancing, firewalls), and you understand the foundations of secure infrastructure and platform observability.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Zabbix
  • Experience with virtualization platforms (Proxmox VE, VMware vSphere)
  • Knowledge of hybrid storage systems (Ceph, ZFS) or advanced firewall/VPN configuration

Behavioral competencies

  • Takes ownership and drives results You take full responsibility for your work, follow through on commitments and lead by example. You encourage initiative, think ahead, and ensure alignment between personal and team goals.

  • Communicates with clarity and impact You convey complex technical topics in a clear, structured way and adapt your message to different audiences. You foster transparency and keep stakeholders aligned through honest, effective communication.

  • Fosters a culture of accountability You empower others to take responsibility and support an environment where proactive thinking and problem-solving are part of the daily routine. You value follow-through just as much as initiative.

  • Drives innovation through action You think beyond the status quo, experiment boldly, and learn from failure. You translate innovative ideas into practical solutions that support both immediate needs and long-term growth.

Benefits & conditions

  • At dotOcean, you'll work with the latest technologies in autonomous systems, automated operations and cloud technology.
  • We're a growing team focused on collaboration, coaching and personal development. And yes, there's always laughter!
  • We foster an open environment where active listening and the sum of all parts are valued. You'll grow both professionally and personally.
  • After a week of hard work, we often head to the café to unwind. Our party committee also organizes fun activities and events.
  • With 40-hour workweeks and 12 additional vacation days per year, we ensure you have the perfect work-life balance.
  • Your enthusiasm and results-oriented approach are rewarded with a nice salary package, supplemented with benefits like meal and eco vouchers, group and hospitalization insurance
