About this role

We are seeking a Machine Learning Engineer to join our dynamic Sales Analytics team at Just Eat Takeaway.com. In this core contributor role, you will be instrumental in building, deploying, and maintaining the infrastructure and pipelines for cutting-edge machine learning models that drive key sales operations. Your work will directly accelerate restaurant performance, improve sales forecasting accuracy, and enrich experiences for our customers, restaurants, and drivers.

As a core part of the Sales Strategy and Operations team, you will collaborate extensively with Data Scientists and other Engineering teams, focusing on the production-readiness and scalability of ML solutions. This role offers the exciting opportunity to turn prototypes into reliable, high-performance services, ensuring significant business impact through robust engineering practices.

We're looking for a self-driven, focused team player who is passionate about operational excellence and building resilient, scalable systems. As an ML Engineer, you will play a critical role in the delivery and maintenance of our most impactful ML products.

Location: Hybrid- 3 days a week from our Amsterdam office & 2 days working from home

Reporting to: Head of Sales Data & Analytics

These are some of the key components to the position:

• Design, implement, and maintain robust, scalable, and efficient ML model training and deployment pipelines (MLOps) in a production environment.
• Collaborate closely with Data Scientists to translate complex models and prototypes into production-grade code, focusing on performance, stability, and maintainability.
• Build and optimize feature engineering pipelines and data storage solutions to ensure models have access to high-quality, real-time data.
• Monitor and maintain deployed models, ensuring high uptime, addressing performance drift, and implementing effective alerting and logging mechanisms.
• Contribute to defining and upholding software engineering and MLOps best practices within the team, including code reviews, testing, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD).
• Proactively identify and address technical debt and efficiency gaps in the model serving infrastructure.

What will you bring to the team?

• Proven experience working as a Machine Learning Engineer or Data Engineer with a focus on deploying and managing ML models in production.
• Practical experience in a commercial environment, ideally with exposure to sales, marketing, or revenue-driving systems, with an ability to deliver high-quality engineering solutions in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong hands-on experience in implementing and deploying ML-driven systems such as upsell prediction, lead scoring models, time series forecasting, and Next-Best-Action systems.
• Proven experience with cloud and MLOps technologies such as Google Vertex AI, Airflow, and handling large-scale datasets in platforms like BigQuery.
• Exceptional proficiency in Python, with a proven ability to write clean, efficient, well-tested, and production-grade code.
• Strong skills in SQL and extensive experience working with big data tools such as Spark in cloud environments.
• Solid understanding of software development best practices, including version control (GitHub), continuous integration, and working within Agile methodologies.
