Job description

  • Ensure data policies, standards, roles and responsibilities and adoption of industry best practice align with our regulatory framework;

  • Support Data Governance boards, corporate decision making and reporting structures;

  • Ensure the Data Strategy steers HMRC towards data maturity;

  • Provide strategic and expert advice to CDO managers including horizon scanning;

Requirements

Do you have experience in Presentation skills?, This an exciting time for digital and technology in HMRC. We are in the middle of a major transformation process, using the latest technology available, that will fundamentally improve the department's data handling for the benefit of our customers and colleagues. The Chief Data Office (CDO) is at the heart of this work, and we are looking for motivated and experienced individuals to play a key role in a new Data Strategy and Governance team. Working to the Lead Data Manager Professional (Strategy and Governance), you will be part of a professional, experienced, and engaged team to provide strategic leadership and governance to ensure we govern, manage, and exploit our data to improve customer experience and revenue., We welcome applicants who are excited by what is happening in Data governance across the world, understand how data can be governed and exploited and technology products used to counter such risks. You will have a background in data governance or data management and have energy and passion complemented by brilliant engagement and communication skills - you will be capable of driving change and taking people with you.

You will be:

  • Capable of leading change and taking people with you.

  • Level-headed, calm under pressure and pay attention to details.

  • Confident in building solid working relationships and a high-performing team to achieve shared goals., * Ability to develop, communicate and drive implementation of an enterprise data strategy and data governance framework.

  • Experience of data strategy, data governance or data management.

  • Experience of developing data capability at an organisational and team level through empowering, supporting and embedding best practices, enhancing data literacy and fostering a culture of data driven decision-making.

  • Successful track record of delivering change through others.

  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, in particular building relationships between IT and business stakeholders.

  • Problem solving, innovation and decision-making skills., * Relevant professional or academic qualification, such as degree and/or DAMA or similar industry recognised qualifications.

  • Knowledge of GDPR and solid understanding of compliance and controls.

  • Experienced line manager., Customer facing roles in HMRC require the ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English and/or Welsh where required. Where this is an essential requirement, this will be tested as part of the selection process., Successful candidates must undergo a criminal record check. Benefits & conditions
