Job description
HMRC is preparing to retender its commercial contract for metadata tooling and is designing a scalable, AI-ready knowledge platform to support transformation, risk management, and strategic decision-making. We are seeking a Data Architect to help shape the data foundations of this platform and ensure our requirements are robust, future-proof, and aligned across the organisation.
You will work closely with the Technical Architect and stakeholders across HMRC to define data requirements for the commercial exercise, assess existing and emerging tooling, and accelerate the establishment of enterprise data standards.
Key Responsibilities

Support the development of HMRC s future metadata platform by defining data architecture requirements.

Evaluate existing metadata tools (e.g. AXON, ABACUS, EDC) and assess external solutions for value, cost, and risk.

Collaborate with Chief Technical Design Office and Enterprise Data Owners to accelerate the definition of data standards and entity relationships.

Contribute to the technical blueprint and ensure alignment with HMRC s strategic data and transformation goals.

Help ensure the platform supports semantic layer design, metadata enrichment, and AI-readiness.
Requirements

DDAT role
-
Proven experience in data architecture, ideally within large-scale public sector or enterprise environments.

Strong understanding of metadata management, data standards, and entity modelling.

Familiarity with tools such as Informatica AXON, ABACUS, and EDC.

Ability to work collaboratively across technical and business teams.
Desirable

Experience supporting commercial procurement or technical evaluations.

Knowledge of semantic technologies, knowledge graphs, or AI-enabled platforms.
