- Act as a regional expert in your specialist area, connecting, supporting, and constructively challenging stakeholders to drive continuous improvement.
- Apply systems thinking to solve complex problems and deliver outcomes aligned with regional and national priorities.
- Collaborate across Integrated Business Units (IBUs), national teams, and other functions to ensure alignment, knowledge sharing, and consistency.
- Engage and influence stakeholders at all levels, building trusted relationships and facilitating cross-functional collaboration.
- Operate with autonomy and initiative, working independently with direction rather than supervision.
- Adapt to evolving organisational structures and priorities during the transition into GBR, supporting change initiatives with resilience and flexibility.
- Champion and coordinate the regional improvement agenda, acting as a conduit between IBUs and national initiatives.
- Apply Lean principles and programme management techniques to drive measurable improvements across the region.
- Support cultural transformation by enabling bottom-up improvement initiatives and capability building.
- Track, evaluate, and report on improvement outcomes, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and stakeholder needs.

Do you have experience in Six Sigma?, The Southern Governance, Risk and Assurance (GRAI) team are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Systems Thinking Specialist - Improvement to lead and coordinate the regional improvement agenda across the Southern region. This role will act as a strategic conduit between Integrated Business Units (IBUs), national teams, and other functions, driving a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence. You will be responsible for applying Lean principles and programme management techniques to deliver measurable improvements, enabling bottom-up transformation and capability building. Your work will contribute to enhancing performance, efficiency, and stakeholder value across the region., * Proven ability to apply systems thinking in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build trust at all levels.
- Strategic mindset with a pragmatic approach to problem-solving and delivery.
- Comfortable working in ambiguity and adapting to change.
- Experience working in or with large, matrixed organisations.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across teams and functions.
- Strong knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience in leading or supporting improvement programmes in large organisations.
- Ability to influence cultural change and foster a mindset of continuous improvement.
- Skilled in programme or portfolio management, including benefits realisation and stakeholder engagement, * Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field (e.g. Business Management, Engineering, Quality, Systems Thinking, Project / Programme Management).
- Professional certifications or training in one or more of the following (depending on role):
- Lean Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt)
- ISO Lead Auditor or Internal Auditor (9001, 14001, 45001)
- Chartered Quality Professional (CQI)
- PRINCE2, MSP, or APM qualifications
- Systems Thinking or Systems Engineering training
Benefits & conditions
Salary : £55,596 - £65,966, Plus an Inner London allowance of £3,270 per annum, pro/rata and many more benefits. Salary dependent on skills and experience of the successful candidate.
The role is based in London Puddle Dock, hybrid working with minimum 3 days in the office. It will require 60% travel across the Network Rail Southern region.
