Job description
CMC are seeking an experienced Hardware Engineer to join our team in Wimborne. This role offers the opportunity to work on the full lifecycle of complex hardware systems, from concept and design through to verification, certification, and delivery. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing safety-critical and high-integrity electronic systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards such as DO-254., * Design and develop complex electronic hardware solutions, including digital, analog, and mixed-signal circuits.
- Ensure all designs comply with DO-254 and other relevant aerospace or defence standards.
- Support the certification process, preparing design documentation and evidence for regulatory submission.
- Work closely with systems, FPGA, and software engineers to deliver fully integrated solutions.
- Conduct hardware verification, validation, and troubleshooting at both module and system levels.
- Participate in design reviews, FMEAs, and other engineering assurance activities.
- Provide technical input throughout the project lifecycle, from requirements capture to production support.
- Collaborate with external suppliers and internal manufacturing teams to support prototype and production builds.
Requirements
- Proven experience in complex hardware design within aerospace, defence, or similarly regulated industries.
- Strong working knowledge of DO-254 and associated design assurance processes.
- Experience with FPGA-based designs - including specification, integration, and verification.
- Proficiency in schematic capture, PCB layout, and simulation tools.
- Good understanding of hardware certification, documentation, and traceability requirements.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a hands-on approach to lab testing and debugging.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, able to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
Desirable
- Experience with safety-critical or high-integrity avionics systems.
- Familiarity with systems engineering tools (e.g. DOORS, Polarion).
- Knowledge of signal integrity, power integrity, and EMC considerations in design.
