Job description

We are looking for an experienced Lead Developer to play a key role in the ongoing development and improvement of our internal systems, digital platforms and applications. This is a hands-on leadership position, combining development delivery with team coaching, technical direction and collaboration across the organisation.

The Role

  • Lead and mentor a small development team (backend, frontend and mobile)
  • Oversee planning, task allocation and workload balancing across projects
  • Set and maintain development standards, code quality and architecture direction
  • Contribute directly to coding, problem-solving and system enhancements
  • Work with the Head of IT to prioritise work, manage risks and ensure smooth delivery
  • Support release management, incident response and continuous improvement activity

Requirements

Do you have experience in PHP?, You'll have proven experience working in a Senior or Lead Development role, with the confidence to guide others while remaining actively involved in delivery., * Strong commercial experience with PHP and the Laravel framework

  • Experience mentoring or leading other developers
  • Good understanding of MySQL and relational database design
  • Confident working with Git-based workflows and code review practices
  • Ability to plan work, break down requirements and contribute to solution design

Desirable

  • Experience with Vue / React / Angular / Next.js
  • Familiarity with AWS, GCP, Cloudflare or Docker
  • Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum / Kanban)
  • Awareness of secure coding practices and performance optimisation

Benefits & conditions

Permanent | Full time (35 hours) | £46k to £59k (dependent upon skills & experience)
