Job description
Trafford IT and Digital Services are integral to support the Council's Corporate and NHS Locality Plans by driving digital transformation across the Council and NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care services. As an IT Engineer within the IT Operational function, part of the IT & Digital Service, you'll manage and support the technology infrastructure that underpins business applications and services. Your responsibilities include monitoring and optimising networks and systems, resolving complex technical issues, and managing incidents within agreed service levels. Working within the ITIL framework, you'll collaborate across teams on root cause analysis, service improvements, and contribute to IT projects and change management. You'll also promote a customer-focused culture, ensuring secure, high-quality IT services that align with business needs and enhance public service delivery.
You'll be working with a wide range of technologies including Microsoft 365, Microsoft OS, antivirus software, VPN, SAP, Veeam backup and recovery, Azure Site Replication, and VMware. The role involves the installation and maintenance of these systems, as well as providing hands-on support for data center hardware. You'll be part of a rota covering support and technology duties.
The role requires some out of hours support, with cover provided on Saturday and Sunday between 10am and 4pm, a 4% uplift is applied to cover this and other out of hours support. The team covers 2 shifts ensuring support is available from 7am to 5pm (there is sometimes a requirement to provide support till 7pm by exception and pre-arranged).
Requirements
Do you have experience in VPN?, You will have strong experience working with service management tools and core end-user technologies like Office 365 and ITSM platforms. Skilled in Microsoft Active Directory/Azure AD and at least three related areas such as Azure, Exchange, VPN, networking, or security, you're confident troubleshooting complex issues and managing teams to find solutions. You communicate technical information clearly to all audiences and thrive working both independently and collaboratively. With excellent organisational skills and a customer-focused approach, you deliver high-quality IT support while mentoring colleagues and managing third-party providers effectively.

You'll also be able to demonstrate experience in supporting the continuous expansion of the Council's Microsoft 365 environment which includes (not limited to) MS Teams, SharePoint, MS Azure, MS Active Directory and Security.

Location Trafford Town Hall, Talbot Rd, Stretford, M32 0TH/ Hybrid, minimum of 2 days per week in the office, scheduled on a rota basis
Salary range Career Graded Post Band 7-8 £37,280 - £42,839 (with 4% out of hours support allowance)
Working Pattern Full time
Working hours 7am 5pm (including AM and PM shifts)
Contract type Permanent, Hybrid role, minimum of 2 days per week in the office, scheduled on a rota.
Working a maximum of 1 weekend in 5, scheduled on a rota.
Flexibility is required to work outside core hours when needed.
Non-Police Personnel Vetting may be required.
