Job description

University Information Services (UIS) is seeking 2 x experienced Desktop Service Analysts for 1-year secondment. This role will directly support multiple schools/departments in closing the specific compliance gaps with the University's Information Services Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) and Systems Management Policy (SMP), both of which are central to the University's cyber security strategy.

These posts are practical, delivery-focused positions and will involve collaborating with local IT staff, researchers, and administrators. You will support the rollout of key technologies and processes required to meet compliance expectations by the April 2026 deadline.

Successful candidates will have hands-on experience working across Windows, Linux, and macOS platforms, alongside strong communication skills, technical troubleshooting abilities, and a collaborative approach.

These roles will be managed by UIS and based out of the Central Support Hub. The successful post holders will report to the Support Hub Manager.

Applications are welcome from internal candidates who would like to apply for the role on the basis of a secondment from their current role in the University.

Key responsibilities

  • Assisting departments with the deployment of Tanium to all relevant devices in scope of the SMP and AUP.
  • Supporting the installation of Trellix EDR on eligible endpoints.
  • Documenting associated network ranges for devices deployed with Tanium.
  • Assisting with the registration of IT assets into the school's central asset register.
  • Identifying scientific and specialist equipment that may require exemption or alternative compliance approaches.
  • Providing guidance to departments on SMP requirements and acting as a liaison with UIS specialist teams where needed.
  • Supporting local IT teams in closing specific compliance gaps.
  • Sharing technical guidance and best practices related to SMP implementation.

Essential skills

  • Recent experience in delivering IT services within a complex environment.
  • Evidence of working at a tactical or operational level to deliver technical solutions.
  • Demonstrable experience in a specific area of IT (e.g. desktop support, infrastructure, or endpoint management).
  • Developing knowledge of at least one technical specialism within an IT domain (e.g. Desktop Support within Infrastructure).
  • Ability to develop and maintain up-to-date knowledge in relevant technologies.

Desirable skills

  • Experience supporting multiple departments or teams in a federated IT structure.
  • Experience contributing to or leading small IT projects.
  • Familiarity with endpoint security and compliance tools (e.g. Tanium, Trellix, Intune, SCCM, or similar).
  • Understanding of IT compliance frameworks and policies such as AUP, SMP, or equivalent.
  • Experience producing technical documentation, reports, or asset registers.
  • Scripting or automation experience (e.g. PowerShell, Bash).
  • Ability to adapt technical communication for non-specialist audiences.

We welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for part-time working or other flexible working arrangements.

We particularly welcome applications from women and /or candidates from a BME background for this vacancy as they are currently under-represented at this level in our department.
