Job description

SQL Database Administrator - Based Onsite in Meriden (5 days per week), * Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot SQL Server databases across the organisation.

  • Implement and manage Database Security Patch Management and Database Access Management.
  • Support and optimise Azure SQL databases and managed instances (PaaS).
  • Oversee database migrations from MS SQL Server to Azure SQL using migration tooling.
  • Carry out performance tuning and optimisation (PTO) to improve efficiency.
  • Manage and maintain backups, restores, and recovery models.
  • Support High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions.
  • Troubleshoot database connectivity issues (firewalls, proxies, networking).
  • Automate and streamline processes through SQLCMD and PowerShell scripting.
  • Provide recommendations on re-architecture and performance improvements.

Requirements

We are looking for a highly skilled professional with at least 5 years' experience in SQL Server administration and related technologies. You will play a key role in managing and optimising our databases, supporting business-as-usual teams, and delivering internal projects.

Our team has recently developed an Azure SQL Data Warehouse, so knowledge of Azure Data Factory (ADF) and hands-on experience with ETL processes and data pipelines will be a strong advantage.

The ideal candidate will be confident in analysing existing databases, advising on best practices, and carrying out tuning and re-architecture where required to maximise performance and cost efficiency.

Salary: Up to £55,000 per annum (depending on experience), * Proven background as a Microsoft SQL Server DBA (5+ years).

  • Strong SQL Server administration and troubleshooting experience.
  • Knowledge of Azure SQL Data Warehouse and ADF / ETL pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience in performance tuning and query optimisation.
  • Expertise in backups, restores, and recovery models.
  • Experience with HA and DR solutions for SQL Server.
  • Skilled in Database Security Patch Management and Access Management.
  • Experience migrating SQL Server data to Azure SQL.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting database connectivity and network issues.
  • Scripting ability with SQLCMD and PowerShell.

Desirable Skills

  • Relevant SQL certifications.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL or MongoDB.
  • Broader exposure to cloud transformation projects.
