Job description
The IT Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, and maintenance of the company's technology infrastructure and systems. This role ensures that all IT operations run smoothly, securely, and efficiently, while supporting business objectives and enabling innovation. The IT Manager leads the IT team, manages vendors, and enforces policies and standards across all technology environments. IT Operations and Infrastructure Management:
- Oversee the implementation of an IT Helpdesk system for company-wide use.
- Oversee daily IT operations, ensuring network, systems, and services availability and reliability.
- Manage the setup, configuration, and maintenance of desktops, laptops, and communication systems.
- Ensure proper backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity processes are in place.
- Monitor system performance and implement improvements to optimize efficiency.
User Experience and Collaboration:
- Ensure consistent, secure, and efficient access to IT services across all departments and offices.
- Work closely with other teams (e.g., DevOps, Security, HR, Finance) to support business processes and system integrations.
- Promote IT awareness, digital literacy, and cybersecurity best practices within the company.
Team Leadership and Support:
- Hire, Lead and mentor the IT team, setting clear objectives and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Provide technical guidance, training, and support to staff and departments.
- Coordinate IT support and helpdesk functions to ensure timely resolution of user issues.
Project Management and Strategy:
- Plan, manage, and deliver IT infrastructure and system upgrade projects.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies to improve operational efficiency, automation and scalability.
- Manage IT budgets (under the supervision of the Head of Trust & Security), procurement, and vendor relationships to ensure cost-effective solutions.
- Align IT initiatives with organisational goals and long-term technology strategy.
Policy, Governance, and Documentation:
- Develop and maintain IT policies, standards, and procedures.
- Maintain asset management systems and ensure accurate inventory tracking.
- Oversee software licensing and ensure compliance with vendor agreements.
- Prepare technical documentation, network diagrams, and system reports.
Security and Compliance:
- Collaborate with the Security and Compliance teams to:
- Implement and enforce information security policies, access controls, and best practices.
- Maintain adherence to data protection standards (e.g., ISO 27001, GDPR).
- Ensure endpoint protection, vulnerability management, and patch deployment.
- Respond to security incidents and coordinate remediation efforts.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
- Minimum 8 to 10+ years of progressive experience in IT infrastructure, systems administration, or network management.
- At least 3 years in a supervisory or management role, leading IT operations, projects, or technical teams.
- Proven experience managing enterprise IT environments across hybrid infrastructures.
Technical Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of Windows, Linux (Ubuntu, Fedora), and macOS environments.
- Experience managing directory systems with cloud identity providers (e.g., Azure AD, JumpCloud).
- Experience with mobile device management (MDM) and endpoint management systems (e.g., Intune, JumpCloud).
- Proven ability to manage hardware and software asset lifecycles and enforce compliance using Snipe-IT Asset Management.
- Strong Experience in setting up & implementing Service Desk systems using JiraSM.
- Deep understanding of LAN/WAN, VPNs, firewalls, DNS, DHCP, routing, and switching.
- Hands-on experience with network equipment and configurations.
- Familiarity with zero-trust networking and secure remote access architectures.
- Working knowledge of PowerShell, Bash, or Python for automation and system maintenance.
- Proficiency in managing cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Strong grasp of information security principles, identity and access management (IAM), and endpoint protection.
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks and standards such as ISO 27001, SOC 2, GDPR, and NIST.
- Relevant IT certifications (e.g., ITIL, CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+) is a plus.

- Strong leadership and mentoring abilities, capable of guiding and developing a high-performing IT team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business terms.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with experience handling multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Proactive, analytical thinker with a problem-solving mindset and a focus on continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally with departments such as Security, DevOps, HR, and Finance., * Direct experience managing collaboration or programs from inception through implementation of AI solutions within an agricultural genomics context.
- Extensive familiarity with the challenges of an AgBioTech and Seeds R&D pipeline from discovery through commercialization.
- Experience managing geographically dispersed, cross-functional project teams in a matrixed work environment.
- Experience collaborating with and delivering to different geographical and cultural partners including NA, EU, SA and Asia
