Job description

At Home Office Digital, we design and deliver services that support millions - from visa and passport applications to border security and police checks. As a Lead Data Analyst in our ServiceNow DevOps team, you'll harness the power of data to drive innovation and improve outcomes across government. You'll lead the exploration of complex datasets, applying advanced analytical tools and techniques to uncover insights that support Home Office stakeholders. With ServiceNow as your primary platform, you'll build dynamic dashboards and visualisations, integrating data from across systems to deliver joined-up, intelligent services. As a thought leader in the data community, you'll shape strategy, evaluate opportunities and risks, and ensure new technologies are fully leveraged. You'll mentor junior analysts, challenge existing methods, and build strong professional networks to drive continuous improvement and fresh thinking. This is a high-impact role with access to some of the UK's largest and most varied datasets - and a chance to make a real difference through data. Where business needs allow some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. As a Lead Data Analyst, you will lead on the exploration and exploitation of a range of complex data sets, analytical tools and techniques to support a range of stakeholders across Home Office. You will ensure that a wide set of innovative opportunities are explored; evaluating options, impacts, risks and solutions to provide clear problem definitions and inspiring full exploitation of new data and technology. You will build and manage a network of colleagues and contacts to achieve progress on shared objectives. You will be a thought leader within the Data Analysis community and manage the development of junior staff. What you will do Your main day to day responsibilities will be: As a lead Data Analyst, you will showcase a true passion for data and exhibit expertise in the following areas:

  • Leading teams to create data analysis products which are proportionate to the business benefit and achieve significant impact.
  • Expanding the boundaries of what can be achieved using data, predicting patterns of behaviour and understanding emerging trends and areas of innovation both in government and industry.
  • Working with ServiceNow devOps engineers to map, produce, transform and test new data feeds for data owners and consumers, selecting the most appropriate tools and techniques. Leading in identifying, collecting and migrating complex data and business questions to/from a range of systems.
  • Developing knowledge of cutting-edge techniques and sharing knowledge of Data Analysis across the organisation through cross collaboration with other key data teams.
  • Presenting the results of data analysis to a range of senior customers, making recommendations.

Requirements

As a Lead Data Analyst you'll have a demonstrable passion for Data, with the following skills or some experience in: o Skilfully lead and manage teams, guiding them in the application of diverse analytical techniques - including network analysis, data matching, information retrieval, and text analytics-to extract insights and drive informed decision-making. o Lead the development of conceptual, logical, and physical data models, while actively sharing expertise in data cleansing and standardisation to enhance data quality and consistency. o Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver clear, actionable findings that meet their needs and support informed decision-making. o Identify opportunities for innovation that deliver measurable business value and align with organisational goals. o Advising on statistical methodologies and data analysis techniques. Present these complex ideas and recommendations clearly and confidently to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior stakeholders, to inform strategic decision-making. o Proficient in SQL and Python, Service Now.
