The Cloud Technical Architect (Azure) is a pivotal member of the Cloud Services Delivery team, entrusted with transforming complex business requirements into secure, scalable, and innovative Azure solutions that drive customer success and advance SCC's strategic objectives. This role is responsible for leading the end-to-end technical design, governance, and delivery of cloud projects, ensuring that every solution is robust, cost-effective, and aligned with industry best practices and compliance standards.

As a technical authority, the Cloud Technical Architect works closely with Agile Delivery Managers, engineers, and a wide range of stakeholders, providing guidance and technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle-from initial concept and design through to implementation, optimisation, and ongoing support. The architect is expected to foster a collaborative and high-performing environment, championing the adoption of new technologies, methodologies, and automation to continually improve service quality and delivery efficiency.

A passion for cloud innovation and a commitment to continuous professional development are essential, as the role requires staying abreast of emerging Azure technologies, industry trends, and evolving customer needs. The Cloud Technical Architect is also responsible for mentoring and supporting the development of team members, sharing knowledge, and promoting best practices across the organisation. Security clearance or the willingness to apply will be required for this role., * Leading the design of innovative customer solutions to a high standard of implementation and technical governance.

  • Implementation\ migration\ optimisation of customer workloads using a wide range of Azure native technologies, aligned to Cloud Adoption Framework principles.
  • Creation of low-level architecture designs for public cloud solutions, emphasizing robustness, scalability, security, and cost efficiency.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of all of SCC's public cloud managed services and Microsoft's Azure services to ensure efficient implementation of the proposed solutions. Passionate about cloud services, primarily Azure.
  • Work closely with aligned Agile Delivery Managers, Delivery Engineers, Solutions Architects and other internal stakeholders to ensure a 'right first time' approach to design delivery, delivered to the highest quality and within agreed timescales.
  • Develop strong relationships with customers and ensure that SCC are always perceived to be valued advisors and technical experts.
  • Assist to continually improve technical delivery methodology, automating where possible using IaC and other methodologies to ensure consistency and integrity while freeing time for other valuable activities. Confidence and the ability to challenge norms and existing processes where tangible improvements can be identified.
  • Ensuring that all design and implementations follow information security best practices and any information assurance compliance requirements.
  • Able to stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in public and hybrid cloud environments. Pursue training and certifications to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Support the success and development of others in the team.

Requirements

Do you have experience in VPN?, * Infrastructure Skills - Strong experience with a variety of Azure infrastructure services including virtual machines, storage, backup, management, databases, Arc and Virtual Desktop. Relevant valid Microsoft certification would be expected to evidence the skills achieved such as Azure Solution Architect Expert certification.

  • Networking skills - able to manage all aspects of VM and cloud tenancy networking including HA and DR configurations; and implement related services such as S2S VPN's.
  • Service onboarding - proven experience of onboarding and migrating customers to Public Cloud services, and experience of tooling such as Azure Migrate.
  • PaaS skills - Knowledge and experience of Azure PaaS such as SQL, App Service, Kubernetes is desirable.
  • Strong experience and understanding of security related technologies such as Entra ID, DfC, RBAC, Lighthouse. A strong 'security first' mindset when performing all activities.
  • Logical and process orientated; ability to understand the customer's journey. Capable of taking sole responsibility for creating detailed Low-Level designs from an initial concept supplied by a Solutions Architect.
  • Creation of Low-Level architectural designs and configuration documentation, ensuring high quality, clear, consistent, and comprehensive artifacts.
  • Scripting and Automation - experience with a variety of scripting languages and automation tools to streamline delivery. Terraform, Bicep and PowerShell primarily used.
  • Communication - Strong team working, communications and collaboration skills, both customer-facing and within internal teams.
  • Flexibility - Comfortable with evolving solutions and finding the most effective path to implementation, working best in an environment of rapid change.
  • Analytical - Given a problem you'll dig to find possible solutions, and work with your team when needed.

Benefits & conditions

Salary Package: £70,000 - £85,000 plus large company benefits, a broad flexible benefits scheme, and 2 paid-for volunteering days a year Hours: 9.00 am - 5.30 pm, Monday - Friday Interview Process: 2-stage process
