  • Design end-to-end technology solutions across applications, integration, data, and infrastructure layers.
  • Ensure architectural designs meet operational, security, performance, and resilience requirements.
  • Work with engineers, product managers, delivery managers, and security specialists to deliver robust, user-focused digital services.
  • Provide technical leadership across programmes, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture frameworks and GDS standards.
  • Evaluate technical options, conduct feasibility assessments, and make informed recommendations.
  • Govern the use of technologies, patterns, and engineering standards across delivery teams.
  • Support cloud adoption and platform evolution (eg, AWS, Azure), ensuring adherence to best practices and cost optimisation.
  • Contribute to the development of reusable architecture patterns, reference designs, and technical documentation.
  • Promote modern engineering practices such as CI/CD, microservices, API-led architectures, and event-driven systems.
  • Mentor and guide engineers and associate architects to build capability across the organisation.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS/Azure) and modern application hosting patterns.
  • Expertise in at least one architecture domain: application, integration, infrastructure, security, or cloud.
  • Experience working with microservices, APIs, event-driven architectures, and containerisation.
  • Knowledge of modern engineering practices including DevOps, automation, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Ability to produce clear architectural artefacts and communicate complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working in agile, multidisciplinary delivery teams.
  • Understanding of security principles, threat modelling, and data protection legislation (eg, GDPR).
