Job description
We're looking for a 1st Line / 2nd Line IT Support Engineer to join a small, busy team and keep day-to-day IT running smoothly. This is a practical, hands-on role with real variety. Tasks include supporting users, managing kit, and helping set up temporary site offices through the year.
If you like being the person who gets things working again, communicates clearly, and keeps people productive, you'll enjoy this. There's also genuine scope for this to become a longer-term role for the right person.
The Role
You'll cover a blend of 1st/2nd line support and on-site IT operations, working independently day to day and escalating when needed., * Handling daily support tickets across hardware, software and user queries.
- Diagnosing and resolving issues, escalating to vendors or parent company support where appropriate.
- Building and configuring Windows laptops using an approved image.
- Managing Android smartphones via MDM.
- Maintaining stock and inventory of devices, SIMs and spare kit.
- Supporting onboarding and leaver processes (equipment, accounts, access and documentation).
- Looking after local office tech - copiers, badge printers, meeting room AV and door entry systems.
- Helping to maintain and improve helpdesk processes and documentation.
- Supporting the setup of around five temporary site offices a year (including Starlink connectivity).
- Travelling to other offices/sites roughly once per month.
- Assisting with audits around permissions, access and compliance.
The Person
You'll be someone who can troubleshoot calmly, prioritise sensibly, and communicate clearly with users, including setting expectations when something needs time.
Requirements
- Background in a 1st or 2nd line IT support role.
- Good working knowledge of networking fundamentals (IP addressing, connectivity, patching).
- Solid troubleshooting skills and the confidence to work independently.
- Hands-on experience with Windows laptops, Microsoft 365 and Android devices.
- Comfortable producing clear documentation and "how-to" guides.
- Strong customer service and proactive communication style.
Other requirements:
- Full driving licence.
- Access to a car for work travel and business-use insurance.
- Happy to lift/move IT equipment and do occasional basic setup work (including ladder use).
