A renowned shipbuilding company in Vlissingen is looking for an experienced System Safety Engineer to lead safety initiatives and guarantee compliance with top industry standards. Key Responsibilities: * Conducting in-depth hazard analyses, such as HAZOP, FTA, and FMEA, to identify potential risks within naval systems. * Ensuring compliance with IEC 61508 and other relevant maritime safety standards. * Developing and implementing effective risk mitigation strategies to ensure system reliability and safety. * Documenting hazards systematically and assessing risks using an established risk matrix. * Working closely with engineering teams to integrate safety requirements into system designs. * Defining and documenting safety requirements specific to naval vessels. * Maintaining clear and well-documented system safety processes that are accessible to the engineering team. * Acting as the main point of contact for all system safety-related issues, both internally and with external stakeholders. * Promoting a strong safety culture through awareness programs and professional development opportunities. * Leading the system safety engineering team and integrating safety processes into standard operations. * Mentoring team members and contributing to knowledge transfer and performance evaluations. * Continuously improving departmental processes to enhance safety and performance. * Adhering to and promoting all HSSEQ / IMED policies and procedures across the organization.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field and at least several years of experience in system safety engineering, preferably within shipbuilding or naval defense. * A strong knowledge of safety analysis methodologies (e.g., HAZOP, FTA, FMEA), as well as functional safety standards such as IEC 61508 and MIL-Std-882E. * Experience leading small, high-performing teams with excellent leadership and management capabilities. * A solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, and automation systems engineering. * Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders. * Proficiency in tools such as MS Office and Requirement Management Tools. * Fluent in both Dutch and English, with German language skills considered a strong asset. * Willingness to travel and work with international stakeholders as needed.
