Job description

Wintech is looking for an experienced, hands-on IT Support Technician to join our small IT team and support our building engineering consultancy operations. You'll be the escalation point for complex technical issues, help maintain our hybrid infrastructure (on-prem and Azure/M365), and strengthen the team through documentation and knowledge sharing. This role requires strong Windows, networking, communication, and security skills. You'll report to the Head of IT and balance day-to-day operational support with longer-term platform improvements. Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Act as escalation point for L2/L3 incidents; resolve issues and liaise with vendors/MSPs as required.
  • Support administration of Azure & SharePoint environments alongside the Head of IT and internal developer.
  • Diagnose, maintain, and optimise on-prem and cloud infrastructure (networking, servers, virtualisation, backups, DR).
  • Support security tasks aligned with Cyber Essentials; help with vulnerability remediation and hardening.
  • Create and maintain runbooks, KB articles and system documentation.
  • Support creation and maintenance of automation/scripts (PowerShell, Bash or similar).
  • Share knowledge with colleagues; help run occasional training sessions and handovers.
  • Provide occasional hands-on site support for hardware incidents and planned works.

Requirements

  • 3+ years' experience in a Tier 2/3 support role or equivalent MSP background
  • Strong Windows desktop/server administration & Active Directory experience
  • Networking fundamentals (routing, switching, VLANs, firewall basics, VPN)
  • Virtualisation experience (VMware/Hyper-V/Proxmox - practical, not necessarily architect level)
  • Solid troubleshooting, prioritisation, and customer-facing communication
  • Basic scripting/automation (PowerShell or similar) - enough to automate simple tasks
  • Familiarity with cyber security best practice; exposure to working under Cyber Essentials controls
  • Willingness to travel to other sites occasionally within the UK and do hands-on work
  • Admin experience with SharePoint (desirable)
