Job description

A. Excel & Data Engineering

  • Build advanced Excel spreadsheets using formulas, PivotTables, Power Query, and VBA/macros.
  • Clean, transform, and validate datasets for use in accounting and reporting.
  • Develop automated templates for monthly reporting and financial summaries.
  • Build dashboards and charts to support business decision-making.

B. Accounting & Financial Data Support

  • Work with the Accounts Team to prepare ledgers, bank reconciliations, journals, and audit trails.
  • Assist with monthly report packs and management accounts.
  • Ensure accuracy of data across payroll, invoicing, contractor records, client statements, and reconciliations.
  • Support preparation of documents for auditors, HMRC, or compliance reviews.

C. Data Integrity & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate versioning of all spreadsheets and datasets.
  • Ensure data management complies with GDPR and internal confidentiality policies.
  • Help prepare structured datasets for legal or regulatory submissions when required.
  • Support the organisation in establishing stronger internal controls.

D. AI & Automation

  • Use AI tools to streamline repetitive data tasks (training provided).
  • Develop small automations or scripts (Python/SQL desirable but not essential).
  • Help the team transition from manual spreadsheets to more automated processes.

E. Operational & Cross-Team Support

  • Work with management to track KPIs and performance indicators.
  • Assist other departments when financial or data analysis support is required.
  • Contribute to system improvements and process upgrades.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Xero?, The Data Programming & Excel Specialist provides advanced data, spreadsheet, and analytical support to the Accounts Team. The role strengthens financial accuracy, operational efficiency, and internal reporting across multiple business units. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly proficient in Excel, and comfortable working with accounting data., * Expert-level Excel skills:

  • VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP
  • IF/IFS
  • SUMIFS
  • PivotTables
  • Power Query
  • Basic/Intermediate VBA
  • Strong numerical and analytical ability.
  • Previous experience working with financial or accounting data.
  • High accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to organise data and follow structured processes.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of accounting workflows (ledgers, reconciliations, journals).
  • Experience with Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar systems.
  • Basic Python or SQL skills.
  • Experience in creating dashboards or automated reporting tools.
