At CGI, you'll play a key role in shaping mission-critical technology that supports some of the UK's most important national functions. This is an opportunity to influence high-impact digital services, evolve complex rule-based systems, and build solutions that make a measurable difference across the Home Office landscape., In this role, you will design, build, and enhance Spring-based microservices that drive event-based decisioning across the Home Office ecosystem. You will develop and optimise rule-based logic using Drools, ensuring HOMBRE continues to deliver accurate, enriched, and prioritised event outputs. Your work will directly contribute to the performance, reliability, and value of a national-scale platform.
You will collaborate closely with engineers, architects, and product teams, taking ownership of your services, contributing creative solutions, and benefiting from a supportive team culture. At more senior levels, you will guide colleagues, share expertise, and influence engineering practices across the project., Develop & Deliver: Build Java/Spring Boot microservices and RESTful APIs
- Design & Optimise: Implement and refine rule-based logic using Drools syntax
- Test & Assure Quality: Create robust unit and integration tests using JUnit and Mockito
- Collaborate & Improve: Contribute to Agile delivery pipelines and CI/CD workflows
- Support & Mentor: Provide guidance to junior developers where applicable
- Enhance & Innovate: Shape engineering approaches and improve system performance
Requirements
You should bring strong Java engineering experience, sound understanding of API-driven services, and confidence working in modern Agile environments. Experience with rule engines, cloud technologies, or front-end frameworks is beneficial but not essential.
Essential experience:
- Solid experience in Java development
- Strong knowledge of RESTful APIs and Spring Boot
- Proficiency with Postgres
- Experience using Maven
- Strong unit and integration testing skills (JUnit, Mockito)
- Understanding of Agile delivery and CI/CD
