Job description

I am working with a client who is seeking a temporary Data Analyst & Reporting Specialist to provide essential reporting, data analysis, and insight support within an HR Shared Service Centre Environment. Experience of doing this role in a HR background is highly desirable. This role will ensure continuity of key reporting outputs, dashboards, business review packs, and operational data analysis during a period of transition. The focus is on delivering and improving reporting, producing clear insights for operational and customer stakeholders, and maintaining high-quality data accuracy. Light automation or workflow optimisation is encouraged where it improves the efficiency of personal processes, but this role does not own the automation strategy.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Introduce and maintain daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly operational and performance reports.

  • Prepare data packs and metric updates to support Monthly and Quarterly Business Reviews.

  • Ensure reports are accurate, consistent, and aligned to KPIs, SLAs, and stakeholder needs.

  • Provide clear narrative and insight behind trends, issues, and variances.

  • Use data storytelling techniques to present findings simply and effectively to senior stakeholders.

  • Maintain dashboards and visualisations used for operational performance, forecasting, and reporting.

  • Perform root-cause analysis to understand issues, bottlenecks, and performance trends.

  • Support demand and capacity planning through accurate data interpretation.

  • Translate data into actionable insight for leadership teams.

  • Ensure new reporting processes and improvements are embedded and followed.

  • Use simple automation or workflow tools (e.g., Excel automation, Power Query, macros, low-code applications) to streamline reporting processes.

  • Identify and remove manual effort where possible (e.g., automated extraction, formatting, and consolidation).

  • Ensure any small-scale automation follows good documentation, testing, and control standards.

  • Recommend improvements that enhance reporting efficiency and scalability.

  • Work closely with operational teams and partners to understand reporting needs.

  • Support data requirements for customer and internal performance meetings.

  • Communicate insights clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Contribute to ongoing continuous improvement initiatives using data-driven recommendations.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong analytical skills with experience translating data into clear insight.
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with Power BI (or other BI tools).
  • Ability to streamline reporting processes through workflow simplification or light automation.
  • Strong understanding of data cleansing, modelling, and dashboard design.
  • Competent in producing accurate reports, commentary, and supporting business review packs.
  • Clear communicator, able to simplify complex data for non-technical audiences.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Highly organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Collaborative team player with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Able to work with sensitive and confidential data responsibly.

Knowledge & Experience:

Essential

  • Strong background in reporting, data analysis, and insight generation.
  • Experience supporting operational reporting and performance reviews.
  • Experience improving reporting workflows using Excel, Power BI, or light automation tools.

Desirable

  • Experience with SQL, Python, VBA, or similar analytical/query tools.
  • Experience using workflow or low-code tools to support reporting automation.
  • Familiarity with HRIS platforms (Workday, Oracle, SuccessFactors) or similar systems.
