Job description
The European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) is the European Space Agency's (ESA) base in Noordwijk, the Netherlands. As ESA's largest test centre, it is responsible for the majority of space technology and spacecraft development through varying phases of production.
Tasks and activities
The scope of work will include:
- Support definition of AOCS requirements and contribute to the elaboration of System/Mission Requirements related to AOCS domain.
- Support analyses and trade-offs for AOCS systems, software, and hardware units.
- Support monitoring the industrial activities concerning design and development of AOCS systems, software, and hardware units for ESA projects.
- Support the Review of the project documentation as produced throughout the project lifetime in AOCS and Pointing engineering, as well as interface documented information from System and spacecraft subsystems.
- Support the procurement of AOCS hardware units for AOCS subsystem (trade-off, requirements definition, participation to hardware reviews, keypoints,..).
- Provide support during execution of R&D activities for mission enabling AOCS system concepts, AOCS simulation modelling, AOCS systems model-based engineering, machine learning application to AOCS systems, and advanced guidance, control, navigation/estimation, and optimization techniques.
- Support laboratory activities to evaluate and prototype new AOCS systems, functions/algorithms and sensors.
- Assist ongoing projects with the design implementation, prototyping, testing, evaluation, benchmarking, debugging, and validation on the corresponding facility.
- Perform integration, functional and performance testing of relevant hardware and software elements in the facility.
Requirements
The following skills and experience are mandatory:
- Master's Degree or equivalent in adequate fields, such as Control Engineering and/or Aerospace Engineering and/or Electrical Engineering.
- At least 4 years of experience in the design, tuning, analysis and simulation of AOCS systems in different project phases.
- HW knowledge (sensors, computer, actuators).
- AOCS AIT at subsystem and system level.
- Proven knowledge of commercial model-based design tools (MATLAB).
- Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.
- Solution oriented mindset, with a customer focused communication skill.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
