Job description

To meet University strategic aims, a product and service-led strategic framework has been developed to allow the IT team to iteratively co-design, develop and deliver new and existing services for our customers. This role will be critical to the delivery of this new and innovative approach. IT Services at the University of Sheffield provide a full range of complex IT and technology enabled services that support education, research, workplace, corporate services and infrastructure enablers to all our staff and students. This large and highly innovative department is undergoing a significant amount of change as it establishes itself as a key enterprise IT partner that works across the University, with stakeholders and key partners to deliver enterprise-wide products and services in line with strategic aims. We are seeking a creative, high-performing and engaging Team Leader who can manage and lead the SAP development and operations team as part of our Technology function. The role will need to manage a team of high-performing engineers in implementation, upgrade and operational support of services including Finance, HR, Payroll and Purchasing systems, together with Employee and Manager Self Services and staff recruitment. Additionally, the team provides integration of SAP with other services both within the University and to external partner organisations as required. Our ideal candidate will have a wide range of experience in SAP operations and development in a corporate environment as well as experience as a team leader, or a willingness to develop in this area, and be able to establish relationships with a wide range of customers and stakeholders across the University and beyond. Main duties and responsibilities

  • Manage the SAP Development team and ensure the team are working to consistent technical standards
  • Provide leadership and direction to the team, providing clear guidance and support to get the best out of team members and allowing them to work to a high standard
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Delivery Leads and other teams in product areas to support a roadmap for the entire product area
  • Translate the needs of the business into value-driven workloads for the team and represent the demands and requirements of the technology back to the organisation
  • Devise or identify technical professional development opportunities for team members to keep skills current
  • Ensure all systems are properly managed, documented and kept up to date
  • Work with integrations, platforms and solutions architecture teams to create and maintain a software development and operations strategy for the department
  • Work as a leader and member of agile project teams as required
  • Act as a technical point of contact in areas of expertise with other colleagues and departments
  • Keep up to date with new technologies and improve existing skills using all available resources
  • Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post
