Job description

We are supporting a UK technology organisation seeking a Principal Front End Developer to take a senior, hands-on role within their engineering team. This position combines deep technical ownership with the ability to guide, influence and raise standards across multiple long-lived products.

The Role You will act as the senior front end authority across the business, working closely with other principals, tech leads and cross-functional teams. Key aspects of the role include:

  • Leading architectural and front end direction across several products
  • Hands-on development using React, TypeScript and a broad modern front end toolkit
  • Improving a large, evolving front end estate with inconsistent legacy patterns
  • Breaking down major refactors and tech debt into realistic, incremental pieces
  • Being the go-to person for complex front end problem solving
  • Mentoring engineers from apprentice level right through to senior/lead
  • Supporting high standards in testing, automation and release processes
  • Helping bring consistency and clarity to the wider front end approach

This role suits someone who enjoys improving real product systems rather than purely working on greenfield builds.

Requirements

You must have:

  • Deep React and TypeScript experience in mature, complex product environments
  • A track record of influencing architecture, standards and long-term direction
  • Experience mentoring both junior engineers and highly capable seniors
  • Exposure to automated testing and tools such as Playwright
  • Experience with cloud-based environments - AWS
  • Experience working within CI/CD pipelines and delivering production-ready software

Benefits & conditions

The organisation offers a strong and genuinely supportive benefits package, including:

  • Competitive salary up to £85,000
  • 7 percent matched pension contribution
  • Private healthcare and wellbeing support
  • Life assurance scheme
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, with the option to buy or sell up to five days
  • Birthday day off
  • Company bonus scheme
  • Learning and development support

Working Pattern

  • Almost fully remote
  • Requirement to attend one on-site day per month - Manchester
