Job description
We're supporting a major national infrastructure programme and looking for an experienced NOC Engineer to join a busy Network Management Centre in Taunton. You'll be part of a 24/7 operation responsible for monitoring, triage, and fault management across a large multi-vendor network estate.
This role suits someone who is hands-on in a NOC today, confident working across IP, transmission, and security technologies, and comfortable operating in a high-availability environment.
What you'll be doing
- Active monitoring of network infrastructure across multiple technologies.
- Initial triage, fault identification and fault escalation to vendors, OEMs or third-party providers.
- Managing incident queues, maintaining clear updates, and ensuring timely resolution.
- Working within defined SLAs, playbooks, and operational processes.
- Supporting a 24/7 operation once shifts commence.
Technology environment
Experience with some of the following is highly beneficial:
- Cisco IP networks (SolarWinds monitoring)
- Fortinet firewalls
- Infinera / Nokia DWDM
- OTN / MPLS
- SDH / PDH
- Microwave radio networks
Shift pattern
Standard weekdays (Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm) initially.
Moves to a rotating 24/7 pattern from January, including evenings, nights, weekends and an on-call rest week .
Requirements
- Background in NOC, network operations or network monitoring.
- Strong fault-finding skills and good judgement around escalation.
- Able to work in a structured environment with critical infrastructure.
- SC clearance required (existing and transferable).
