Job description
The purpose of this role is to administer and maintain SQL Server, Big Data and Cloud Environments from a data centric point of view. The team works across various platforms with multiple clients to support and administer the delivery of our client's solutions, We now have an exciting opportunity to join our team working as a Database Administrator. The person we are looking for will be given exposure to some of the latest technologies available in database solutions. The individual will also be given time to train on these technologies and pass various certifications to develop their career. This is an ideal role for someone intrigued by the world of data and technology.
This team is working across various platforms with multiple clients to support and administer the delivery of our client's solutions. The individual will be responsible for administering and maintaining SQL Server, Big Data and Cloud Environments from a data centric point of view.
What you will do in your day to day:
- Overseeing and preserving the database estate, which involves monitoring performance and ensuring security
- Creating and implementing strategies for database backup and recovery to safeguard data and facilitate disaster recovery
- Diagnosing and resolving database-related issues, collaborating with developers to address database problems
- Conducting database tuning and optimization to meet required performance levels
- Administering database security, including the creation and management of user accounts, assignment of roles and privileges, and monitoring access logs
- Collaborating closely with other IT personnel to align database environments with organizational goals and objectives
- Developing and maintaining comprehensive database documentation, such as data dictionaries, data flow diagrams, and system diagrams
- Remaining informed about emerging database technologies and industry trends
Other responsibilities include providing support in administering other technologies currently supported by the wider team including cloud environments, Hadoop, and Informatica.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of expertise as a Database Administrator (DBA) or in a comparable role
- Performance Tuning SQL Server
- Advanced T-SQL
- PowerShell
- Database tuning and optimization
- Familiarity with cloud-based database technologies such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Microsoft Azure
- Robust problem-solving and analytical capabilities
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Outstanding problem-solving aptitude
