Job description
Youll be the voice users hear as they navigate Make's product translating powerful technical capabilities into clear human language. Working at the intersection of product design and engineering you'll ensure every word in our interface earns its place and helps users achieve their goals with ease.
If you're passionate about the craft of UX writing, love solving puzzles through language, and want to impact millions of users building the future of automation we'd love to hear from you. What you'll do
- Own the UX copy for key features and updates collaborating with product experience and engineering teams to ensure a seamless user journey across the platform.
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear, simple language that empowers users from beginners to power users to build and automate with confidence.
- Reduce ambiguity in the user interface by providing precise, actionable text that helps users quickly understand their options and achieve their goals.
- Leverage the power of Make itself to find and implement AI-powered solutions for UX writing challenges.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, UX, Designers, UX Research, Product Managers and Engineers to address copy requests, improve the interface, and advocate for user needs.
- Evolve Make's UX Writing Style Guide, shaping the product's tone of voice and defining standards for writing the highest quality UX copy.
- Conduct UX research projects to deepen your knowledge of our users and their needs, implementing these insights to continuously refine UX writing practices.
- Design with words, considering how copy affects layout, visual hierarchy, and the overall aesthetic of the interface.
Requirements
- 2 years of UX writing experience for digital products, ideally in SaaS or B2B platforms.
- Experience writing for multiple platforms and audiences; you adapt your approach for web vs. mobile, novice vs. expert users, and various user contexts.
- Technical fluency; you can grasp complex concepts like APIs, integrations, and automation logic and then make them accessible for users of all skill levels.
- Deep understanding of user journeys and how to write contextually for different touchpoints: onboarding, in-product UI, error states, empty states, tooltips, and notifications.
Mindset & approach
- Curious; you ask questions, dig into user behavior, explore edge cases, and never stop learning about your users and the product.
- Flexible and adaptable; you thrive amid changing priorities and can smoothly pivot between multiple projects and stakeholders.
- People-first mentality; you naturally empathize with users and consistently advocate for their experience in every decision.
- Self-directed and independent; you take ownership, identify opportunities for improvement, and drive initiatives without waiting for assignments.
- Collaborative spirit; you seek feedback, work openly, and elevate the work of your colleagues.
- Quality-focused; you understand that every word matters; the interface needs to look good and read beautifully.
Nice to have
- Proficiency in Figma (or similar design tools); you're comfortable working directly in design files and understand how copy and design work together.
- Experience conducting or participating in user research (usability testing, user interviews, surveys).
- Familiarity with automation platforms, integration tools, or developer-focused products.
- Experience with localization and writing for global audiences.
- Active engagement with the UX writing community through conferences, writing groups, or thought leadership.
