Job description
We're looking for an experienced AI Engineer to help build intelligent systems that leverage one of the world's most unique industrial datasets. In this role, you'll work on production-grade Generative AI solutions, developing and deploying AI systems that solve real business challenges across SGS's global operations.
As a Senior AI Engineer in our new Digital Hub, you will design, build, and deploy advanced AI solutions that automate and enhance critical business processes. You'll work with cutting-edge Generative AI technologies, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to establishing our AI engineering best practices.
What You'll Build and Own:
- Develop Production AI Solutions: Design and implement Generative AI applications using LLMs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and agentic workflows to solve business-critical problems
- Model Development & Optimization: Work with both commercial and open-source models (e.g., GPT-4, Claude, Llama, Mistral), including fine-tuning on proprietary data when beneficial
- Build Intelligent Systems: Create AI-powered workflows and agents that can interact with tools, APIs, and databases to automate complex tasks like report analysis, compliance checks, and document generation
- Implement AI Infrastructure: Build and maintain robust AI/ML pipelines using modern frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex, etc.) and MLOps tools, ensuring scalability and reliability
- Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with product managers, data engineers, and domain experts to translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Drive Best Practices: Contribute to establishing engineering standards, evaluation frameworks, and reusable components for AI development across the organization
Requirements
- Experience: 5+ years in software engineering with 2+ years focused on AI/ML, including recent hands-on experience with LLMs and Generative AI
- Generative AI Expertise: Proven track record building and deploying LLM-based applications, including prompt engineering, RAG systems, and model evaluation
- AI Frameworks: Experience with frameworks like LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar tools for building LLM applications
- Programming: Strong Python skills and experience with ML libraries (PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn)
- Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, Qdrant, Chroma), containerization (Docker), and cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure)
- Data Engineering: Ability to work with unstructured data, build data pipelines, and create robust APIs (FastAPI, Flask)
You have a strong engineering mindset with a focus on shipping production-quality code
You're excited about applying the latest AI research to solve real-world problems
You thrive in collaborative environments and can communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences
You're comfortable working with ambiguity and can balance innovation with pragmatism
You're eager to learn, share knowledge, and grow your skills in a rapidly evolving field
You take ownership of your work and are driven by impact
