Job description

We're partnering with a scaling SaaS enterprise undergoing a significant technology transformation and are looking to appoint a Lead Software Engineer to play a pivotal role in shaping a core, revenue-critical platform.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role for someone who enjoys setting engineering direction, raising standards, and leading by example while still remaining close to the code.

The Opportunity You'll join a highly capable product-led engineering function working on enterprise-grade, cloud-native systems used at scale. The platform is actively evolving, with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and long-term maintainability.

As Lead Engineer, you'll act as the technical authority within the team - influencing architecture, guiding delivery, and mentoring engineers - while collaborating closely with Product, Architecture, and senior stakeholders.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leading the design and development of high-quality .NET solutions
  • Owning technical decision-making across services, integrations, and APIs
  • Driving engineering best practice: clean code, testability, CI/CD, and cloud standards
  • Mentoring and developing engineers across mid and senior levels
  • Working closely with Product to translate business requirements into scalable solutions
  • Playing a key role in modernisation, platform evolution, and technical strategy

Requirements

  • Strong commercial experience with C# / .NET in SaaS or enterprise environments
  • Proven experience operating at Lead or Senior-Lead level
  • Solid understanding of cloud-based architectures (Azure preferred)
  • Experience building and supporting distributed, high-availability systems
  • Comfortable balancing hands-on development with leadership and influence
  • Passion for improving engineering culture and technical quality

Benefits & conditions

  • Up to £80,000 base salary
  • 20% annual bonus
  • Hybrid working: 2 days per week onsite in Manchester
  • Clear technical ownership and real influence over platform direction
  • Long-term career progression within a growing SaaS business
  • Supportive, engineering-led culture with modern tooling and practices
