Job description
About The Role FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a UX Designer to work for our consultancy client. This is initially a 6-month contract with very good prospects to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in Leatherhead, Surrey 1 day a week. We're looking for a talented UX/UI Designer with solid digital product experience to join our client's team. You'll be stepping into a role previously held by a junior-mid-weight consultant, so we're seeking someone with similar hands-on design capability, strong collaboration skills, and a passion for user-centred problem solving. You'll work closely with a Design Lead and partner with the Front-End Designer, with some independent work due to the smaller size of the design/front-end function compared to the backend team. The client uses the Astro UXDS design system- experience with this is not required. Responsibilities:
- Create intuitive, user-centred designs for digital products, ensuring high usability and visual quality.
- Translate complex technical and functional requirements into clear UX/UI solutions.
- Collaborate closely with the Design Lead and Front-End Designer to maintain design consistency.
- Produce wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity interface designs using tools such as Figma.
- Conduct or support user-centred design practices, such as user flows and interaction design.
- Work with stakeholders to gather requirements, present design options, and validate solutions.
- Apply existing design systems (training provided for Astro UXDS) to ensure brand and UX consistency.
- Support iterative design and development processes, responding to feedback and evolving needs.
Requirements
- Strong proficiency in Figma for UX/UI design.
- Solid grounding in User-Centred Design principles and methods.
- Hands-on experience creating designs for digital products.
- Ability to translate technical requirements into clear, user-friendly design solutions.
- Effective consulting and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to manage some isolated, independent design work when needed.
- Experience producing clear design artefacts (wireframes, prototypes, UI components)
Desirable Skills:
- Any experience designing for the Public Sector (e.g., government services or websites).
- Familiarity with design systems (Astro UXDS experience is welcome but not required).
