Job description
This is a founding engineering role with genuine ownership.
You will help decide how Via is built, not just what gets built. From MVP to scale, you will shape architecture, tooling, and engineering culture, working closely with the CEO and Head of Technology.
If you are looking for a large legacy codebase and rigid process, this role is not for you.
If you want to ship, break things, fix them, and build something from day one, keep reading. What you will do
- Own features end to end from user problem through to production
- Build fast, reliable, and genuinely pleasant workflows for candidates and employers
- Set up and evolve the stack, CI/CD, monitoring, and infrastructure
- Introduce best practices around testing, performance, and observability
- Play a key role in building the engineering team and culture
Requirements
- Strong full-stack experience shipping real products to production
- Modern React, Next.js, and TypeScript experience
- Experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases
- Solid understanding of authentication and security fundamentals, including JWT-based flows
- Comfortable owning features through deployment, for example on Vercel
- Startup mindset with comfort in ambiguity and full ownership
- Strong product instincts and appreciation for good UX
- UK-based and willing to work mostly on-site in Central London
Nice to have
- Tailwind and component systems such as shadcn/ui
- Data fetching and validation patterns like SWR or Zod
- Product analytics, messaging platforms, or LLM tooling
- Early-stage startup experience
