Job description

A specialist engineering firm is seeking FPGA Engineers at various levels-from junior to principal-to join their high-performing design team in North Germany. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to technically advanced projects with a strong focus on robust, real-time, and embedded FPGA development. The Role: As an FPGA Engineer, you will take an active role in the design, verification, and delivery of VHDL/Verilog-based solutions for complex integrated systems. Collaborating closely with systems, hardware, and software teams, you'll tackle integration challenges and drive innovation in high-performance environments., + Develop and verify FPGA designs using VHDL.

  • Manage configuration and version control throughout the development cycle.
  • Produce design documentation and maintain rigorous design traceability.
  • Apply timing and area constraints for efficient place-and-route.
  • Analyse hardware/system-level requirements to derive detailed FPGA specifications.
  • Support integration and verification at both hardware and system level.
  • Liaise with engineering leads and multidisciplinary teams to align on deliverables.
  • Prepare regular technical reports and progress updates.

Requirements

  • Hands-on FPGA design experience with VHDL or Verilog.

  • Proficiency with development environments such as Quartus Prime Pro, ModelSim, Vivado, or ISE.

  • Familiarity with Xilinx, Intel (Altera), and Microsemi (Actel) toolchains.

  • Solid knowledge of version control systems and configuration management practices.

  • Independent verification expertise and technical risk mitigation.

  • Experience with high-speed serial interfaces and embedded system integration.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Desirable Extras:

  • Background in safety-critical FPGA development (e.g., RTCA/DO-254 DAL A or B).

  • Familiarity with SystemVerilog/UVM for verification.

  • Prior experience in Aerospace or Defence sectors.

  • Knowledge of embedded processor cores such as ARM within FPGA architectures.

  • Experience incorporating AI functionalities in FPGA designs.

  • Exposure to agile development methodologies and latest FPGA technologies.
