Job description

Copello are supporting a leading Defence client in their search for a Test & Testability Expert to play a key role in shaping how systems are tested across their full lifecycle - from early concept through to production and in-service support.

You'll report into the Head of Test & Testability, with strong project links to the Project Chief Design Engineer, and act as a Subject Matter Expert across multiple programmes.

As part of the Test & Testability Architecture team, you'll help define smarter test strategies, improve Built-In Test architectures, and raise the quality and consistency of test specifications across projects - removing waste and focusing effort where it adds real value.

This is a senior, influential role where your technical expertise will directly shape product quality, efficiency, and ways of working.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Own and define project test strategies and BIT architectures, including coverage requirements

  • Improve how test equipment requirements and specifications are written across programmes

  • Lead analysis of production test data to identify trends and diagnose failures

  • Model and analyse system test coverage and generate diagnostic instructions

  • Drive continuous improvement in ways of working across Test & Testability

  • Support Red Team reviews and critical issue resolution during development and manufacture

  • Support new product bids and early feasibility studies

  • Identify, document, and deploy best practice across the department

  • Mentor and support engineers within the Test & Testability team

  • Contribute to and lead technology and capability roadmaps

Requirements

  • Degree-level education (or equivalent experience)

  • Significant experience in electronic test across the full project lifecycle

  • Strong background in:

  • Electronic circuit design, test, and failure analysis

  • Test equipment design

  • Requirements capture and specification

  • Design for Test (DfT) and testability

  • Proven ability to provide technical leadership across complex design projects

  • Experience influencing senior technical and business stakeholders

  • Willingness to travel within the UK and EU when required
