Job description
Ideal candidate will handle a mix of design and implementation tasks for multiple office moves and branch network refreshes, including logical and in some cases physical site setup , automation via scripting and pushing configurations from DNA/ catalyst center , device configuration, and user acceptance test execution, with flexibility to work on both physical and non-physical aspects of campus builds., ·Strong experience in campus Cisco network technologies, Wi-Fi, campus security, and ideally some knowledge of Fortinet firewalls, though internal support for Fortinet is available; familiarity with Cisco Catalyst Centre, automation pipelines, and a willingness to perform a range of tasks from racking equipment to liaising with end users is essential.
·Involved in network design, implementation standards, automation, testing procedures, and the use of third-party and internal resources for specialized tasks.
- Network Design and Implementation: High-level designs for new sites are in place, with templates under development; engineers will focus on implementation, requirements gathering, and delivery, with most sites being straightforward (e.g., two switches, a few access points), and more complex fabrics planned for future larger sites.
- WAN and Firewall Configuration: Most sites use internet connectivity with VPNs to data centres and local internet breakout; Fortinet firewalls are standard, and while Fortinet skills are advantageous, internal experts will handle advanced configuration, with the expectation that engineers can perform basic troubleshooting and testing.
- Testing and Quality Assurance: Testing standards and runbooks are being developed by another internal team, though support for execution of the defined testing with a focus on synthetic and real-user transaction testing, failover scenarios, and ensuring robust handover to end users will be expected to avoid past issues with insufficient site testing.
- Wi-Fi Survey and Deployment: For large sites, third parties conduct active Wi-Fi surveys; for smaller sites, the same vendors are used, with potential for in-house surveys in the future; engineers are expected to handle physical installation, controller configuration, and performance validation, but not survey/ placement of WAP designs.
