Job description

As a Junior Software Tester, you will work closely with our Product Owner, Software Tester and Software Engineers to ensure new and existing features are thoroughly tested before release. This is a hands-on role focused on learning core QA skills, executing tests, identifying issues, and contributing to product quality. You do not need an automation background to apply, but an interest in learning automated testing over time is welcomed. The main responsibilities of a Junior Software Tester

  1. Manual Testing and Documentation
  • Execute manual test cases for web and mobile components of the platform.
  • Record test results with clarity and accuracy.
  • Log and track bugs using tools such as Jira, providing clear reproduction steps.
  • Support regression testing for new releases and bug fixes.
  • Maintain and update test documentation with guidance from senior colleagues.
  1. Test Design Support
  • Assist in reviewing user stories, requirements, and acceptance criteria.
  • Help create simple test cases and scenarios under supervision.
  • Prepare and validate basic test data for test execution.
  1. Automated Testing (Foundational)
  • Support the execution of existing automated test suites and review test results.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating automated tests under guidance from senior colleagues.
  • Contribute to writing simple automated test cases as skills develop.
  • Develop an understanding of how automated tests fit into CI/CD pipelines and release processes.
  1. Collaboration and Communication
  • Work closely with Software Engineers and Product colleagues to understand features and expected behaviour.
  • Provide structured feedback on issues, risks, and edge cases.
  • Contribute to team discussions about improving overall product quality.
  1. Learning and Development
  • Develop knowledge of QA methods, test planning, and defect management.
  • Build skills in exploratory testing and structured test design.
  • Actively develop automated testing capability with support and mentoring.

Requirements

  • Some experience in software testing, QA, or an IT/technical discipline (early career, internship, academic, or commercial).

  • Awareness of automated testing concepts and why they are used in modern software delivery.

  • Strong attention to detail with a logical and analytical mindset.

  • Comfortable documenting test results and writing clear bug reports.

  • Basic understanding of the software development lifecycle.

  • Confident using technology and learning new tools.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • A proactive, organised, and team-focused approach. Desirable (but not essential)

  • Experience with Jira or similar issue-tracking tools.

  • Exposure to test management tools (e.g. TestRail).

  • Basic familiarity with HTML, CSS, or JavaScript.

  • Hands-on exposure to automated testing tools (e.g. Selenium), whether through coursework, personal projects, or commercial experience.

  • Understanding of basic object-oriented programming principles.

  • Experience or study in Computer Science or a related field. These are nice-to-haves - we do not expect a junior to have everything, but candidates should demonstrate curiosity and intent to develop automated testing skills.

Benefits & conditions

  • The opportunity to join a fast-growing company at the forefront of a booming market.

  • Clear development pathways and training support as part of a growing engineering team.

  • Competitive salary and Company Bonus Scheme.

  • A flexible, dynamic, and supportive company culture.

  • 31 days annual leave (including bank holidays), rising with service.

  • Life assurance (x3 salary) and income protection scheme.

  • Cycle to Work and Techscheme.

  • Occupational pension scheme.

  • Hybrid working - working from home on a Friday. Reasons to work at MyNewTerm:

  • Fantastic team culture with supportive, collaborative colleagues.

  • Exceptional staff retention.

  • Investment in developing and growing talent from within.

  • Weekly recognition of achievements across the business.

  • A mission-driven SaaS product with strong product-market fit.

  • Highly responsive to customer and user feedback.

  • A reputation for delivering exceptional service and value.

  • A product loved by schools, MATs and candidates.
