Technology plays a critical role in supporting both client service and the firm's continued evolution., Reporting to the Head of IT, the Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer is a key role within the technology function, responsible for ensuring the firm's cloud and infrastructure environment is secure, resilient, cost-effective and continuously improving.
Working closely with the Solutions Architect, you will act as both a cloud specialist and hands-on technical leader, shaping and delivering cloud infrastructure solutions that align with business strategy and cybersecurity objectives. This role requires strong technical depth, sound judgement, and the ability to manage a demanding workload in a professional services environment.
The IT team operates core hours between 8:00am and 7:00pm (Monday to Friday) on a rotating shift basis. Flexibility is required, including participation in an out-of-hours on-call rota and occasional evening or weekend work to support projects and business-as-usual activities.
Key Objectives
- Develop a deep understanding of the existing IT infrastructure and cybersecurity controls, proactively identifying areas for improvement
- Continuously monitor and optimise cloud resources for performance, reliability and cost efficiency
- Implement and maintain strong security controls, identity management and compliance frameworks
- Lead vulnerability management and ensure alignment with security accreditations
- Develop Infrastructure-as-Code solutions using Terraform
- Design and maintain robust disaster recovery and backup strategies
- Work with the Solutions Architect to minimise downtime through redundancy and failover solutions
- Implement role-based access controls and least-privilege principles
- Evaluate emerging technologies and contribute to a culture of continual improvement
Responsibilities
- Design, implement and manage Azure cloud infrastructure to ensure scalability, security and high availability
- Administer and optimise Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments
- Manage Intune and endpoint security, including device compliance and application deployment
- Implement application control policies and data governance using Microsoft Purview
- Maintain compliance with Cyber Essentials and other security standards
- Perform vulnerability patching across cloud and on-premise systems
- Own remediation actions arising from penetration testing and phishing simulations
- Conduct regular backup and restore testing to validate disaster recovery plans
- Provide third-line support and respond to escalated incidents and service requests
Requirements
- Strong expertise in Microsoft Azure and the wider Microsoft technology stack (Azure AD, Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online)
- Proven experience designing and supporting Azure architectures, including automation with Terraform
- Deep understanding of cloud security, identity and access management, and compliance frameworks
- Knowledge of networking concepts such as VPNs, Firewalls and load balancing
- Experience supporting enterprise applications commonly used in the legal or professional services sector (eg document management, practice management, email security and productivity tools)
- Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills
- Strong understanding of ITIL best practices, including change, problem and availability management
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a structured and transparent manner
