An opportunity is available for a Telecoms Network Management Centre (NMC) Engineer working in our Network Management Centre in Taunton.
As an NMC Engineers you will be responsible for the remote monitoring, management, configuration and control of our Telecoms and SCADA Networks, working with our Field Operations, Design and Commercial teams to deliver a reliable, resilient and secure solution in a fast and evolving space.
A five-week shift pattern exists in the Telecoms Network Management Centre providing 24/7 coverage, the successful candidate will be expected to work the shift pattern as business needs direct. This can be discussed at interview. For an initial number of months there will be an intensive training program to be followed which will be during office hours before shift work starts.
- Please note the successful candidate may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.
Main Responsibilities
The specific main tasks include:-
- Undertaking front line operational support, from a 1st and 2nd line perspective within the NMC environment.
- Providing remote configuration of network elements on the Telecoms and SCADA networks.
- Managing your own working time to ensure that jobs are completed in the most efficient manner.
- Working with contractors and when necessary witness acceptance tests.
- Working with colleagues and customers to ensure a continuity of service.
- Working safely and in accordance with agreed National Grid procedures and techniques.
- Providing technical support to customers and liaising with colleagues to solve complex issues., * you have been serving overseas with HM Forces or in some other official capacity as a representative of HM Government

Requirements
Do you have a valid Nursing and Midwifery Council Registration, Nursing and Midwifery Council license?, Do you have experience in Network management?, You will ideally have experience of working in a Network Management Centre. You will be required to provide front line operational support within the National Grid Telecoms Network Management Centre, liaising with field-based engineers, customers and contractors.
Candidates are required to have experience with configuration and fault finding in Layer 2 and Layer 3 IP Networks, including switches, routers and firewalls. Experience with DWDM, MPLS-TP, Microwave, SDH and PDH would also be an advantage.
You should be committed to providing outstanding customer service and have an ability to communicate well with both colleagues and customers.
Ideally qualified to BTEC Level 5 or equivalent in Telecommunications, Data Networks or Electrical Engineering or have extensive relevant experience; however applications are also encouraged from candidates that are able to demonstrate that they have a technical background and the motivation to make a success of this opportunity.
