Please note monthly travel for 2-day team events is expected as part of this role. Locations will vary between Telford, Birmingham, Manchester or London., The Solution Architect will lead technical architecture activities to enable Alpha delivery for the Submission Service. The role ensures architectural integrity, readiness of microservices, and alignment with government standards while supporting innovation through PoCs and AI accelerators., 1. Alpha Planning - Technical & UCD Drive architectural preparation for Alpha, including kick-off workshops with ETMP, CESA Futures, and ITSD. Define approach for ARB reviews, CRs, and solution confidence across dependent areas. Collaborate with stakeholders on DPIA, BIA, and SRA (including AI). Support UCD readiness by advising on technical feasibility for prototypes and onboarding plans.

Architecture & Platform Readiness Review existing microservices and propose team split/profile. Define and document DoR and DoD for Alpha sprints. Validate test strategy across microservices and ensure PRA actions are completed.

Roadmap & Delivery Support Provide architectural input to roadmap creation and epic/story refinement. Advise on technical dependencies for onboarding and team uplift. Support performance framework iteration and audit event design for CIP integration.

Innovation & Proof of Concepts Deliver PoCs for server-driven UI, HMRC chatbot integration, and AI accelerators. Explore AI-supported development pipeline and machine learning prompts in user journeys. Produce technical documentation and demos for stakeholder engagement.

Cross-Team Engagement Represent architecture in our hackathon, contributing to enrolment, agent parity, and universal API strategy. Maintain alignment with HIP APIs, ITSD, and dependent delivery areas.

E2E Service Design Collaborate on to-be service design for submission, amendment, and late filing journeys. Ensure architectural considerations for digital inclusion and enrolment strategies.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Solution Architect in large-scale government or enterprise programmes.
- Strong knowledge of microservices architecture, API design, and cloud-native patterns.
- Experience with JIRA, roadmap planning, and Agile delivery.
- Ability to produce technical PoCs and communicate complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Familiarity with government standards, security frameworks (DPIA, BIA, SRA), and compliance processes.
Desirable Skills
- Exposure to AI/ML integration in enterprise services.
- Understanding of server-driven UI and chatbot technologies.
- Knowledge of HMRC income tax services and related dependencies (ITSA, MTD, ASA).
