Job description
We're looking for a Systems & Economy Designer to own the design, balance, and evolution of the game's progression and economy. This role is responsible for turning a fun core loop into a sustainable, long-term experience by designing clear progression, healthy currency flows, and monetization systems that support both player satisfaction and business goals.
This is a hands-on role in a lean team. You will actively model, design, tune, and iterate on systems throughout development, working closely with the Creative Director / Lead Game Designer, engineering, and production.
Role Focus
This role is accountable for:
- Progression and economy design across the full player lifecycle
- Balancing sources, sinks, and pacing to support retention and monetization
- Translating design intent into clear, implementable systems
You are not a feature generalist - your primary responsibility is ensuring the game's systems are understandable, scalable, and resilient over time.
What You'll Do
Economy & Progression Design
- Design and maintain the end-to-end economy, including currencies, rewards, sinks, inflation control, and progression pacing.
- Model player progression across early, mid, and long-term play to ensure clarity, motivation, and sustainable growth.
- Co-own monetization design with the Creative Director / Lead Game Designer, translating experience guardrails into concrete mechanics, pricing logic, and progression pacing.
- Ensure monetization systems support the core experience rather than disrupt it.
Simulation, Balancing & Tuning
- Build and maintain spreadsheet-based models (Excel / Google Sheets) to simulate player behavior and economic outcomes.
- Predict the impact of new features, rewards, or events before implementation.
- Identify and mitigate economy risks such as inflation, stagnation, or exploit loops.
LiveOps & Long-Term Systems
- Design the systemic frameworks that support events, challenges, streaks, and recurring content.
- Own LiveOps economy tuning and reward scaling, ensuring events remain exciting without destabilizing the economy.
- Monitor economy health signals (balances, progression speed, pinch points) and propose tuning updates.
- Align LiveOps tuning decisions with creative direction and production cadence.
Collaboration & Implementation
- Work closely with the Creative Director / Lead Game Designer to align systems with the overall vision and quality bar.
- Collaborate with engineers to ensure systems are clearly specified, feasible, and efficiently implemented.
- Produce clear design documentation, flows, and data definitions to support implementation and iteration.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in systems and/or economy design for mobile F2P games.
- Proven experience designing progression, currencies, and monetization systems.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills; comfortable reasoning about complex systems.
- Advanced proficiency with Excel or Google Sheets for modeling and simulation.
- Solid understanding of player motivation, retention, and monetization dynamics.
- Experience collaborating closely with design leadership and engineering.
- Fluent in English; comfortable working in a remote, international team.
Nice to Have
- Experience with casual or hybrid-casual mobile games.
- Familiarity with LiveOps systems such as events, leaderboards, or battle-pass-style mechanics.
- Experience tuning systems post-launch or during soft launch.
- Background in economics, mathematics, data analysis, or similar fields.
- Experience with scripting or lightweight tooling for simulations.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development or gameplay systems, such as content generation, tuning automation, or adaptive difficulty.
