Job description

Responsible for maintaining and innovating KPN's fixed core and peering networks through automation and DevOps., As a Senior Network Engineer in the Fixed Core tribe, you will be responsible for designing, maintaining, and continuously improving KPN's core and peering networks. Your primary goal is to ensure a highly available, secure, and future-ready network that supports KPN's transition to a NextGen Telco through virtualization, automation, and modernization.

You will work in a DevOps environment, combining innovation with operational excellence. Together with your team, you will manage critical network functions, resolve complex incidents, automate processes, and contribute to the evolution of KPN's state-of-the-art network infrastructure. You will also take part in an on-call rotation to ensure 24/7 network stability., * Maintain, support, and improve the fixed core and internet peering networks

  • Drive innovation through automation, virtualization, and process optimization
  • Design, test, and implement network changes and new solutions
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network incidents and changes
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners in an international DevOps environment
  • Ensure high levels of availability, security, and performance across the network, The primary responsibility is operational management and continuous improvement of KPN's fixed core and peering networks, ensuring 24/7 stability, availability, and performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's (HBO) level and extensive experience in network engineering (design, testing, operations) within a telecom/service provider environment
  • Strong knowledge of routing & switching, TCP/IP and protocols such as BGP, OSPF, IPv6 and EVPN, preferably on Nokia, Cisco or Juniper equipment
  • Proven experience with Python and network automation tools such as Ansible, Docker and Jenkins in a DevOps/Agile environment
  • Solid understanding of carrier-grade networking, network security principles, and internet peering / service provider technologies (MPLS, BGP, traffic engineering is a plus)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, proactive mindset, fluent in English, and available for on-call/standby duty
