Job description
Teledyne Marine Vehicles is looking to hire a Service Technician for our new Plymouth UK facility. The new hire will join our unified global service team for Slocum gliders, with a special focus on the UK Royal Navy. Duties include technical support for RN, other UK and other European users of Slocum gliders, Gavia AUVs, and APEX floats including testing, routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
Applicants must be willing to travel occasionally to customer sites within the UK as well as factory locations in the US and Iceland for training.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Deliver Slocum and Gavia service and support
- Answering technical inquiries from customers via website, email, text, phone, etc.
- Diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing complex oceanographic equipment
- Documenting all repair activities accurately and writing clear and concise repair reports for customers.
- Travel to customer sites for testing and service as required
- Conduct Onsite Sea Acceptance Testing at customer locations
- Conduct on-water testing and calibrations as needed

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions., * 3-5 years of UK Royal Navy experience in the handling and service support of unmanned systems including AUVs and gliders
- Close connection to RN user communities in either mine countermeasures, diving, hydrography / oceanography
- Degree in mechanical or electrical engineering preferred. 2 - 4 years of experience showing ability to diagnose, mechanical, electrical and software issues and provide solutions on complex systems; or equivalent combination of education and military experience may be considered
- Experience assembling equipment, and or repairing electro mechanical systems
- Experience with small boat, and seagoing experience on large vessels, preferred
- Understanding of naval operations of unmanned systems preferred
- Ability to creatively solve customer problems and design solutions based on customer needs
- Excellent communicator, both verbal and written, with strong interpersonal skills
- Computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office products is essential: Excel, Word and Power Point.
Preferred:
- Candidates must possess, or be able to obtain, a UK security clearance
- Previous experience using Salesforce or other Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool
- Experience working closely with customers in sales, customer service, or technical capacity
- Ability to work as part of an extended team to identify, repair, and report on all isolated equipment failures.

- Ability to handle and move equipment (up to 50 lbs.), at times long distances
- Ability to move around in oceanographic vessels and small boats (ladders, tight spaces)
- Ability to work in the field in adverse weather conditions and adverse working conditions
- Occasional work at non-standard work hours
- This position requires prolonged periods of standing and sitting in a repair lab setting.
