Job description
We're looking for a Senior BI Engineer to take technical ownership of our finance data platform within THG. This is a high-impact role for someone passionate about data architecture, modern tooling, and enabling the business through data-driven decision-making.
You'll be a strategic voice in how we shape the future of our BI ecosystem and platform - from modernising legacy architecture to guiding our transition into the cloud and scalable, AI-ready solutions. As a technical lead within the Finance Data Team, you'll work across teams, mentor fellow engineers, and directly influence business-critical reporting and analytics capabilities., * Lead large-scale data projects across infrastructure, reporting, and architectural streams.
- Take ownership of our current BI data platform (SQL Server, SSRS, SSAS, Superset, Tableau) and drive continuous improvement.
- Mentor and support team members, review code, and set engineering standards across the BI estate and improve current processes and ways of working.
- Design and implement scalable data models and efficient ETL pipelines.
- Play a key role in our journey from on-prem SQL Server infrastructure to cloud platforms - contributing to architectural design, strategy, and migration plans.
- Collaborate closely with finance leadership and stakeholders to define requirements, communicate insights, and ensure the right data gets to the right people.
- Champion the adoption of modern BI tooling, AI-driven capabilities, and best practices in data engineering.
Requirements
- 5-10 years of experience in BI or data engineering, with a proven track record in technical leadership roles.
- Expert-level SQL and deep experience with the MS BI stack (SQL Server, SSRS, SSAS).
- Hands-on experience with Python, particularly for data manipulation and API integrations.
- Strong background in cloud architecture and migrations, ideally with exposure to GCP or other cloud technologies.
- Excellent understanding of data modelling, query optimisation, and performance tuning at scale.
- Ability to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating business needs into scalable solutions.
- A collaborative, innovative mindset and a passion for pushing BI forward.
Desirable:
- Experience with finance data domains or reporting in financial environments.
- Exposure to modern BI tools like Superset, Tableau, or Looker.
- Interest in or experience with AI and ML-enhanced analytics.
