Job description
This is an ideal opportunity for a Configuration Engineer who enjoys working across complex technical environments, engaging with multiple stakeholders, and bringing clarity and structure to large-scale programmes.
You'll support the SZC Delivery Programmes to ensure that Configuration Management (CM) is applied consistently, proportionately, and effectively across the project. This includes planning, identification, change control, status accounting and audit, with a strong focus on continuous improvement and robust governance., As Configuration Engineer, you will:
Act as a focal point for Configuration Management across assigned programmes, ensuring alignment with project-wide CM arrangements.
Support the delivery and continual improvement of the Overarching Configuration Management Plan, as well as the development and implementation of programme-specific CM plans.
Help identify, manage and mitigate emerging configuration risks, simplifying complexity and enabling informed, timely decision-making.
Support the establishment and control of technical baselines, improving visibility and confidence in the project's configuration status.
Play a key role in ensuring configuration data supports effective governance, assurance and delivery outcomes.
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
Supporting the execution of the overarching and programme-specific Configuration Management Plans.
Implementing, reviewing and improving CM standards, procedures, guidance, tools and templates.
Ensuring configuration items are correctly identified, recorded and linked to appropriate configuration information.
Working with stakeholders to establish configuration baselines at key project milestones (e.g. Gateway Reviews, Replication Reports).
Administering change control processes, ensuring changes are registered, assessed, governed and progressed efficiently to closure.
Preparing Configuration Status Reports to support management decision-making.
Supporting and delivering CM training to ensure programme participants understand their roles and responsibilities.
Working closely with Engineering Data Management and Information Management teams to define CM requirements and ensure supporting tools are fit for purpose.
Requirements
Experience coordinating cross-cutting technical topics within an engineering or project environment.
Ability to interpret and apply engineering and management procedures.
Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and a collaborative approach.
Ability to work proactively, independently and escalate issues appropriately.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
A sound understanding of engineering principles.
Demonstrable experience in configuration management or engineering management.
Desirable:
Knowledge of Configuration Management standards.
Engineering degree or equivalent industry experience.
Experience working on large, multi-disciplinary engineering or infrastructure projects.
Previous experience on HPC, EPR or other major nuclear projects.
Experience using Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools.
CM certification (e.g. CM2) or equivalent industry experience.
